"Superstar" products to stick with

Tia4 · 29/07/2015 07:16

Really I'm trying to save time and know you'll have opinions for me - first off I'm looking for a truly "non streaking, no rinse needed" surface cleaner for bathroom/ kitchen etc

But it also got me thinking about the money spent on products that disappoint despite the marketing hype so I'm interested to know of any "superstars" you've chosen to stick with or keep returning too - perhaps products worth spending extra on too!

Thanks! Looking forward to a few replies before I shop tonight :-)

A cap of Zoflora in the washing machine instead of fabric softener gets the stink out of sports kit and smells lovely.

Suzietwo · 06/08/2015 08:41

Cif for stainless steel

A steam mop. Absolutely brilliant. Quick to clean and quick to dry. No need for any floor cleaners as the strangers rid of everything. Mine also has attachments for carpets, fabric, windows, tiles, concrete ... so worth £100!!

susurs · 06/08/2015 14:10

I swear by VIAKAL for limescale cleaning in bathroom!

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 06/08/2015 14:16

Microfibre cloths and ecover multi surface cleaner.
Harpic for the loo (and sometimes the shower - it's amazing!).

Gatekeeper · 06/08/2015 14:19

Proper cotton string mop
Morrisons household soap
Stardrops with ammonia for windows and everything really
Microfibre cloths
Scrubbing brushes
Domestos bleach

That's me lot

Barkeepers friend for our Belfast sink- gets any muck and stains right out and smells satisfyingly toxic so you know it's working. And Mr muscle mould and Mildew for the grouting in the bathroom. X

Call me cynical but a soon as I saw this thread I imagined our comments on it would be used for advertising. Sure enough, just seen the soft cloths advert in my inbox with a quote from here.

maudpringles · 06/08/2015 18:07

I love bicarb.
Sprinkle it on a stinky carpet and it freshens it up.
Make it into a paste to clean the Belfast sink.
Give your teeth a clean with it.
Fab stuff .

Ilovetorrentialrain · 06/08/2015 18:09

Sorry. Microfibre cloths.

Dontbesilly · 06/08/2015 18:54

Astonish products are good. Fairly cheap but harder to find. Home bargains and Wilkos sell them. The floor cleaner melts dirt away. I also love Stardrops the orange liquid and the ammonia one too and always have a bottle of cif cleaner in.

I recently bought a bottle of liquid soda crystals for pennies but I don't know what to do with it. I use soda crystals in my washing machine so figure the liquid is the same thing but a ready made solution.

Yes to microfibre cloths too.

MeganTrainer · 06/08/2015 18:57

Use any old cleaner.

Then buff with an ecloth.

mrsmeerkat · 06/08/2015 19:01

I can't really fault the cheapo supermarket own brand cif cream cleaners for getting rid of grime.

Brillo pads are amazing

I buy the spray bottles from b&m and dilute zoflora and leave in the toilet for a quick freshen up

I want to buy a magic eraser

White vinegar for the underarm of tops

Karbea · 09/08/2015 23:20

Can anyone recommend a good floor cleaner?

Sgtmajormummy · 09/08/2015 23:50

Cleaning windows is the job I hate most, so I'll pay any price to get it done faster. Ajax crystal spray is a winner. One go over with paper towel, no streaks, even in strong sun. Works a dream on tooth-pasty mirrors (mentioning no names) too!

For floors I use Lidl ecological cleaner (green) well diluted and add a few drops of ammonia.

CordeliaFoxx · 10/08/2015 00:18

I've just bought Mr Muscle toilet gel discs with bleach. You just squish one onto the inside of the toilet bowl and it freshens etc with every flush. Having a house of males that don't seem to know how to flush a toilet they have been great.

PrimalLass · 10/08/2015 09:06

The yellow spray Flash. Has to be the yellow one.

PeterParkerSays · 10/08/2015 09:34

Can anyone recommend something to get grease off kitchen cupboards - the high level cupboards next to the hob are sticky with grease and I can't get it off completely.

Gatekeeper · 10/08/2015 09:36

sugar soap for sticky , greasy cupboards

Gatekeeper · 10/08/2015 09:36

a strong solution of soda crystals would also work

PeterParkerSays · 10/08/2015 09:48

The yellow stuff you buy in DIY shops? I may be calling into B&Q on my way home then, have a day off later this week to try it out.

misscph1973 · 10/08/2015 09:55

Dontbesilly, liquid soda crystals are fantastic for grease. I spray in on the kitchen fan hood, leave it to soak for a few minutes, and wipe if off. I also use it for the dark rings arounds tap bases. You can also spray it os really greasy pans and let it soak a few minutes, then was with washing up liquied/hot water. The only thing is it can leave a streak, so I wipe it away with a bit of vinegar on the cloth.

In fact, liquid soda crystals is my superstar product. It's cheap and not too horrible on the environment. And it works on any grease

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/08/2015 11:30

A steam cleaner has revolutionised the cleaning of greasy cooker hoods and surrounding cupboards in our house. Gets them like new in no time.

Notso · 10/08/2015 12:15

Steam mop,
Micro fibre cloths for shining tiles, taps, sinks etc,
Glass cleaning cloth,
Decent squeegee,
Sugar soap for paintwork and grimy cupboards. I sugar soaped the kitchen recently and DH thought I had repainted,
Washing powder for a burned pan or carpet stain,
Dishwasher tablet to clean oven door glass,
Platinum fairy liquid.

I'm yet to find anything as good as bleach for toilets and mouldy grout.

Karbea · 10/08/2015 12:15

Where do you buy ammonia? Ok with pets?
