My DH is in the cleaning business, and if working on dog carpet he damps his hand and gets rid of hair that way, he has tried many other things and for this he claims works the best.

SurlyCue · 22/06/2015 15:34

yatalkin is it his bare hand or a gloved hand?

TealFanClub · 22/06/2015 15:36

I am pretty sure bare hand SurlyCue.

KillmeNow · 22/06/2015 22:52

I use the rubber soles of my shoes to get hairs off the carpet. I drag my foot across the surface and get a gratifying line of greystuff/hairs . Very good occupation if you are on a long telephone call.

Another telephone call occupation is cleaning the venetian blinds with a sponge eraser cut into small rectangles.

EmNetta · 23/06/2015 00:29

No, but I use one on the (washable) kitchen carpet all the time, and can't remember how I managed without them.

Wagglebee · 23/06/2015 00:35

Never.

Until now...

I'll report back when I've tried it. It sounds ridiculous but a lot of ridiculous things, I've tried after reading about them on MN, have turned out to be genius.

holmessweetholmes · 23/06/2015 16:30

I've just this minute tried it! Pretty effective, but didn't really remove the line of dog hair along the back crease of each step, but then I suddenly remembered - my dm used to use a rubber - gloved finger for that. So I did that as well - hey presto! Clean stair carpet!

TealFanClub · 23/06/2015 17:22

So different eh?

Very good occupation if you are on a long telephone call.

I flash wiped the radiators and kitchen cupboard doors whilst on the phone yesterday. Grin

Haggswood · 23/06/2015 17:40

Wasn't it mn of yore that shared the tip that rubbing with a croc is excellent at getting deeply dwelling pet hair out of your stairs?

AnitaManeater · 23/06/2015 21:53

I have an old pair of crocs which I don regularly for the purpose of scraping grey shit from the carpet. Deeply satisfying.

TealFanClub · 24/06/2015 09:31

I would never own crocs. Ew

OP posts:
CordeliaFoxx · 24/06/2015 09:36

I put my trainers on, rub feet over rugs etc - no crocs required!

SophieHatters · 24/06/2015 09:40

It isn't just the stair carpet guys.

The difference to any carpet is IMMENSE if you wipe it with a damp cloth.

Honestly the amount of hair!

I didn't want carpet in our new house but we couldn't afford hard floors. Hate carpet.

I will NOT have it on the stairs though. They are going to be painted. And vinyl in the halls and landings (lots of landings here)

TealFanClub · 29/06/2015 12:55

Who did it?

OP posts:
CantAffordtoLive · 03/07/2015 08:55

Read this during last nights sleepless night and will try it after breakfast!

I doubt I'll be sharing photos because with 2 cats that would just be too gross.

CantAffordtoLive · 03/07/2015 10:16

That was hard work! Only because I think the nap on my staircarpet runs upwards, so although the cat fur clumped up easily, it just wouldnt lift off!

I'm seriously considering a new carpet. Do they make cat proof carpet? I wonder.
