Leaving washing out over night

I didn't get the memo so put the washing in the drier, went out and it was blazing sunshine all afternoon. Grr. Just put a wash on and realised I have to dry it. Not sure pegging out at five will dry it in the hour or two but as I think we're forecasted lovely hot weather this weekend I thought I'd just leave it overnight. Any reason this is not a good idea?

If I know it's going to be nice weather the next day I do.

rookiemere · 07/06/2015 13:53

I leave them clipped to the line missqwerty and yes generally buy a pack costing £1.99 once a year. I feel it is viewed as a slatternly habit by some, and not as the efficient time saving device that it in fact is.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/06/2015 14:03

I don't find it time saving, when I have tried leaving them out they are all in the wrong place. The cross body peg bag is a great time saver though, they are just there by your hip, dip your hand in, peg, dip, peg.

My neighbour left hers out once for 6 weeks. I lie not. I know this extreme and consider this slovenly but I tend to think it's a bit lazy just leaving it there overnight, especially if he weather's crap, neighbours the other side seem to put there's out and leave it a few days until it gets rained on then dried again. I think my neighbours are the reason that I think the way I do. I am a hypocrite tho as I have just hung my washing out after being away for the weekend and having washed ridiculous amounts, it's nice weather though and I have nowhere else to put it!

Diryan · 07/06/2015 22:17

I do. We have an Economy 10 meter which means our electricity is half-price at certain times of the day, and therefore we only use things like washing machines at those times. I don't run It when kids are in bed because of the noise, so the only time I can run the washing machine is mid/late afternoon. If no rain is forecast overnight I hang it out once its washed, and then bring it in the following morning.

TendonQueen · 07/06/2015 22:21

I am as slatternly as they come, but I have just hauled my arse off the sofa to get mine in because spiders. Hate webby washing.

missqwerty · 07/06/2015 22:32

Think il start bringing my pegs in then! I've just invested in really good ones would be a shame for them to get ruined and it bugs me moving them up as I try peg out!

pressone · 08/06/2015 15:20

Washing out overnight - I don't like it although I have no logical explanation for this and think it is inherited snobbery (my Mother could give Hyacinth Bucket tips).

Pegs - I use one of these www.lakeland.co.uk/22184/Brabantia%C2%AE-Peg-Pouch
Can slide it along the line ahead of what you are pegging next, I worl left to right along the line, DP right to left and it works for both, has a little drain hole so the pegs don't sit in water if you forget to take it in. Had mine for 7 years and it looks brand new.

ILovedThe90s · 08/06/2015 19:04

I have never ever left washing out all night for no other reason than what if it rains overnight. I have just done a load and was going to tumble dry it, will hang out on the line now, will just bite the bullet and DO IT

Might just check with my DM first though Grin

PuppyMonkey · 08/06/2015 19:12

This thread makes me all anxious. Can't bear the thought of washing left out overnight. I hear there are some people on MN who also leave it out if it rains. * faints

ILovedThe90s · 08/06/2015 19:17

I know Puppy, my chest feels all tight. But this is ridiculous right? I mean it's not like I'm leaving my DC out all night!

FastWindow · 08/06/2015 19:17

If it rains I pop a garden parasol over the whole thing. Do i win the Slattern Trophy?

TheCowThatLaughs · 08/06/2015 19:20

You win the slattern genius award Grin

mumtoblaire · 09/06/2015 12:35

Washing always in by 9pm. Can't be worrying about spiders and other creepy flying things!

Also does it not get damp?

ILovedThe90s · 09/06/2015 14:25

Just thought I'd update y'all. I hung my washing out last night. This morning there were no spiders, no damp smell and no bird poop. And the world didn't end Grin

MrsBennetsEldest · 09/06/2015 19:42

I am THAT woman that puts the washing out at night and gets it in when it's dry, could be out overnight, the next night and possibly the next. Am I concerned about what the neighbours think, errrm, nope. I bring the recycling boxes back in when I can be arsed tooGrin

echt · 12/06/2015 07:45

I often leave washing out overnight:

  1. I can't see it from the house, therefore it doesn't exist.
  1. Rain is nature's fabric conditioner
  1. For much of the year, the Aussie sun ultra-dries the washing, so bringing in stuff early doors means the creases drop.
  1. No BBQ smell because, oddly, I can't think of an Aussie I know who does the charcoal thang - all gas.
