Tell me about loo brushes...

So... Do you mind your DCs going near it? Do you put it up out of reach of young hands or have you done away with it all together?

My 1yo DS in to everything and have re-jigged most places to be less hazardous but I dunno what to do about the loo brush. Any ideas?!!

I've always left the loo brush, however after four children mine have never tried to use it.

Yorkshiremummyof4 · 21/05/2015 11:41

Sent before finished. Perhaps wait and see if he ever tries to touch it.

You have a loo brush? How un MN of you! Grin

Same issue here - toddler DS is obsessed with ours. Maybe get one of those enclosed one if you're worried?

yehbutnobutyeh · 21/05/2015 14:15

Thanks both Smile

Oooh intrigued by unMN comment!! Will look it up!!

Simple, if you don't have a loo brush the dc can't play with it.
I hate loo brushes with a vengeance Grin

LetThereBeCupcakes · 21/05/2015 15:15

I think it's a long running theme on MN. Very anti-toilet brush around here.

I keep mine a secret. Please don't tell!

lighteningmcmama · 21/05/2015 19:05

What do you clean the loo with then?

Blush
LetThereBeCupcakes · 21/05/2015 19:11

Me? I live life dangerously and use a loo brush. No idea what others do!

MrsMarigold · 22/05/2015 17:20

I use a loo brush - I don't understand how people manage without and yes I have read those threads, but I've had to hide it from my DD who used it to brush her hair now I keep it in the guest loo.

HermioneGrangerHair · 22/05/2015 19:46

I don't have one, and my loo is clean. Any time there are skid marks, we put a bit of bleach down, and they break down so they can be flushed away.

I've always hated the dirty things, but even more so since the embarrassing moment on the beach when our dog came galloping back from the tide line with the business end of a bog brush in her mouth Blush

AmateurSeamstress · 23/05/2015 16:36

I don't get the anti loo brush thing. Bleach apparently degrades skid marks completely, however a loo brush cleaned with the very same stuff is vile. If it truly cleans so well that the loo never needs to be scrubbed, surely it can also clean a brush?

Anyway, neither of mine ever showed much of an interest in it, but i suppose we tended to keep the bathroom out of bounds unless we were in there too.

I used to have one of those loo duck disposable loo brush things here Then I discovered that strong bleach gets rid of most stuff anyway so I don't really use the duck thing much.

Its not so much toddlers I have a problem with, its loo users (guests or otherwise) who attempt to clean up their skid marks but leave crap all over the brush and then put it away like that! I'd rather they just didn't bother.

Rascalls3 · 24/05/2015 11:19

I threw our loo brushes out a few years ago and definitely haven't missed them! Now I just squirt bleach around and use wipes around the top/ lid. Occasionally when I am feeling very diligent I don rubber gloves and give the inside of the bowl a good scrub with a Basics green scourer sponge ( about 40p for pack of 6 or 8) and bleach. Sponge is binned after.

whiskeytangofoxtrot · 24/05/2015 15:25

I had a toilet duck brush which had a disposable flushable thing but it was a bit rubbish
My toddler was obsessed by it so we threw it away for now
I know it's very un MN of me but I think it's important to have a loo brush for visitors to clear up after themselves

I got my son his own loo brush, as being told not to touch made it just soo tempting. I had to explain at toddler group it had never been used i was afraid of the comments :$

0x530x610x750x630x79 · 25/05/2015 21:11

Bother :$ didnt work Blush

wonkylegs · 25/05/2015 21:43

Mine never touched it as a baby/toddler, thankfully at 7 he's now learning to use it when necessary.
