Hi,

I want to get a good washing machine (its going constantly!!) and am very interested in the new Miele ones W1. Do you think its worth the extra money fro Miele?

I have just bought a new machine. I looked at the Mieles which DB recommended but the cheapest was around £590 with a five year guarantee.

We are very, very hard on machines and in the end a cheapy Beko at £200 and a top up five year guarantee for £100 seemed a better deal.

thanks, yes I know they are expensive.... I'd love to have a machine where the clothes come out clean and not really hard. I like the 'steam' finish idea etc

Definitely worth the extra money IMO. I know they seem a LOT pricier but the quality is amazing. I don't think anyone will believe it until they try it for themselves (promise I don't work for them!!) so if you can stretch to a Miele do it - you won't regret it.

I, too, have a Miele washing machine. It is honestly the best w/machine I've ever had. Copes really well with son's horrible, very muddy motocross clothes. Also have their dishwasher and vacuum cleaner (and no, I promise I don't work for them either) Grin All worth the extra expense, if you can afford to stretch to it.

I have a Miele washing machine (thanks to Mumsnet product tests). It's amazing, if you can afford it go for it, the build quality is outstanding, it's quiet and every wash programme delivers really good results. I have had no fading, little holes in clothes etc (plus there's a 20 min wash if you, like me, realised the kids had no clean knickers at 11pm last night)

I have a bottom of the range miele that has lasted more than twice as long (12years) as the previous top of the range Hotpoint (5 years - the limit of the warranty) for less than half as much more.

Yes - worth the money - I am on Miele number two- 1st one lasted 18 years, this one is a mere baby at 4 years so far -no problems with either at all

My old Miele (18 years) was sounding a bit noisy this Spring and, instead of waiting for the bearings to finally go, we took the plunge and replaced it with a Miele W1.

Rather than buying brand new, we went to their warehouse in Abingdon to get a B-Grade (40% off). Yes, we had to pay for delivery but the trek was worth it to get a machine that sales staff/service engineers had prodded for a few hours. A great move.

I was sniffy about Twin Dos, but I love it! We just quickly press a button to tell it to dose from the inbuilt bottles rather than the powder drawer. Put simply you either buy Miele detergent (they'll give you at least one set free...otherwise it is about £20 per 30 washes) or fill it with supermarket liquid(s); you tell the machine what you have put in and the doses when you refill. With a family of 3, I refill about once/month.

It is a REALLY quiet machine. There is a 20 minute quick wash (useful for just freshening things up) a power wash of about an hour (use it for school stuff) right up to hot cotton washes of about 3 hours. When we were using Miele detergent we trained the "blood stain removal" wash. DH likes the shirt program (it steams the shirts at the end in a sort of tumble so they have fewer creases).

We particularly like the timer (so we can see how much longer a cycle has to run) and it makes the familiar "Miele chime" when the wash is complete. I have LED lights in the drum that light up at the end, for some reason. I'm not sure why.

Aside from my "oven with issues", all the other Miele kit in our kitchen (induction hob/extractor/steam oven/freezer/fridge/dishwasher) have been trusty workhorses.
