Organising photos

Not sure if this is really the right place for this question but it's about organising so I thought people might have some good suggestions.

I have sooo many photos of Dd. Thousands. Some are backed up to external hard drive, some are on One drive which came free with my laptop. Some are in dropbox but I've now filled that up. I've also got loads of memory cards from my camera..... it's all a bit of a mess!

I'm planning on getting organised before the arrival of DC2 in October. I hope to make photo books of the best pics. But I need backup up storage too.

Any cloud storage services people recommend? I could get Dropbox Pro but it's £8 a month. I've heard Flickr is good and gives a terabyte for free. But I've also read it can be unreliable..

Help! Any advice?

Hmm. I have the same problem. But I don't like keeping photos on memory cards etc. I plan to print them all and do photo albums. I have a few already. (maybe I'm just old fashioned?)

I guess you could put all the pictures on to a CD? I mean you'll look at it just as much at you'll look at a photo album. Print out the nicest ones for framing.
I have the nice ones framed and the rest of them in an album so I can re-use the memory card. You only got one chance back when to have a photo! I don't need duplicates.
I don't know, for me as a kid I loved looking at old pictures of everyone and going through heaps of photo albums. I also don't trust the internet to store my photos.

I have a very similar problem. Thousands of photos all over the place. No advice I'm sorry but watching with interest!

I agree that they have to go in albums, photo books or frames. Otherwise what's the point? It's just getting around to doing them...

I have so so many pics of my Dd. It's ridiculous!

I subscribe to Dropbox. We do pay for it, but it means all my pictures are in the one place. I file them by year and month, so if I am anywhere with wifi I have access to any of my digital pictures. I also am comforted knowing they are backed up and safe if, say, we had a fire.
I definitely agree with printing them out, but I would never do this instead of storing them safely and electronically. I want to do a photo book for each year... so far I have done 2014 and my physical photo albums go up to 2009, so I have a few years' gap to fill in. I love having lots of photos in frames, too, and sorting this is made much easier by having all my photos sorted online.

Mine are on CDs, organised by month. I keep the CDs in my locker at work so if my house burnt down my photos would still be safe.

Nicest photos are printed in frames or scrapbooked. DS also has his own little album which I plan to fill with pictures of him.

Gus, it's good to hear you're happy with Dropbox. I'm tempted to just give in and pay for Dropbox because I trust it (I like that you can restore stuff you've deleted) and it's hassle free. I just don't like the thought of being chained to something, paying £8 a month, forever. Bit dramatic but I would have to keep paying it to avoid losing all my pics. I like the sound of Flickr because you get a Terabyte for free but apparently they don't offer a restore service if files are lost as they don't market themselves as a storage service.

I had an awful experience last summer where I accidentally deleted a load of holiday pics that weren't backed up. I couldn't get them back. I was so upset. I need to learn from my mistakes...

I've been thinking of using Tresorit to store photos.

Files are encrypted on your device and then uploaded. You get 3GB free, but it's a more basic version.

My photos are also on our home media server.

Ours are on our home server and backed up on an external hard-drive.
Sorted by year
I did a cull when I sorted ours out - printed some for frames, put some in photo books and deleted some less good ones.
