Feather dusters vs "proper" duster and polish?

Well, I've tried it. I've flicked round with a feather duster instead of the usual microfibre cloth and polish. I thought the point of a feather duster was that the natural static attracts the dust so that you can shake it out afterwards - all I seem to have done is to redistribute the dust into the air, from where i expect it will settle back down quite happily where it was before! Any tips?

The only feather that attracts dust is ostrich feathers. Ordinary feather dusters just disperse the dust! I use the dust cloths you buy, (disposable ones). They pick up the dust and you can chuck it afterwards (not very environmentally friendly I know, But I do not dust every week!

I have tried feather dusters too - with the same result you described.

Also, my dh complained that 'nothing looked shiny anymore', so back to duster and polish it is...

I know the polish is not very eco friendly, but at least things look and smell clean....(for a short while anyway...)

i use baby wipes have yet to find a duster (feather or otherwise) that will enable me to dust without wheezing - i am asthmatic

I always damp dust.

Whats to point in feather dusters as they just move the dust and then it just goes back again.

With damp dusting there is not much (if any) dust flying around after you have finished. Every now and then I put some polish on the cloth and then wipe bits with the cloth to help to make things shinny and smelling cleaned.

I have some hoover tools coming for betterwear to fix to my big hoover. They are mini 1s, so I am hoping that the hoover can also clean some if the dust. ie the back of the TVs, lights, books, computer etc.
