Cleaning hairbrushes

Is something I do do, but not every week, though I do remove strands of hair after each brushing. However , even though none of us have pink hair, there's a lot of pink fluff collected around the base of each bristle, which can be wrinkled away when wet with a pair of tweezers, but is such a soulless waste of time...There has to be a better, more efficient way, no?

Aww, somebody must have super duper ways of dealing with this, admittedly totally unriveting, issue?

Don't say MN has failed me!

what you need is another brush to clean it with. I got pearson that comes with a brush to clean it with.;They are mega expensive but it was a present . I would try and clean it with a nail brush as this has worked for me In the past. Good luck

MyCatHasStaff · 18/04/2015 18:39

I stand my brushes and combs in a jug of hot water with a bit of shampoo added and just let them soak. The I use an old toothbrush to give the bristles a bit of a scrub. I don't have really expensive brushes though...

Gozogozo · 18/04/2015 18:55

Thank you both.

I have mid range demand & I do indeed soak in shampoo solution & use comb to make sure broadly clear.

I will try a nail brush & see if it helps...It's the gunk at the base of the bristles that irritates.

I put mine in the dishwasher Shock

OneTwoManyLots · 18/04/2015 19:02

What about putting hair removal cream on it? Then all the hair and gunk will just dissolve off. Obviously clean it very well afterwards.

That might be a terrible idea but it's all I've got. Grin

I got a tangle teezer and found it so much easier to clean, and it brushes my thick mane of hair better than any brush I've ever had

MrsBertMacklin · 18/04/2015 19:07

OMG don't put Veet on it!

something like this. I have the Mason Pearson one and find cleaning one brush with abother brush strangely satisfying, although somewhat verging into Monica from Friends using a Dustbuster to clean her Dyson territory.

AmateurSeamstress · 18/04/2015 20:53

Would a comb do it?

Gozogozo · 18/04/2015 21:15

MrsBert, your link led me to a hairbrush cleaner & when I checked the reviews, I decided to follow another hair brush cleaner for half the price, designed to pull out the fluff. So, thank you! I will order when I have enough other stuff to make up the £10 free p&p order.

Can't post the one I'm getting but some reviewers said it does exactly what I need, so I'll report back in case anyone's interested.

Mumsnet to the rescue again!

I use my cylinder vacuum (without any attachments or poles - just the handle bit) to suck out all the fluff on my brush (Mason Pearson). I always find it hard to get it even with the cleaning brush and takes ages. I then was in it in weak baby shampoo every few months.

Aridane · 19/04/2015 17:33

Interesting thread - I've got two hairbrushes like this - both cheap, and have replaced one in the area where it may been seen(ie the bathroom) - but the other which I still have will try putting the dishwasher!

Gozogozo · 19/04/2015 18:26

HOOVER...why did I never think of that?

I have loads of denman paddle brushes (3 for 2 @ Boots & always going walkabout Blush ) so I am prepared to sacrifice one hoover trial. If a nogo, I will chuck it in the dishwasher...The ladder of hairbrush redemption, and the first few rungs have been scaled Grin
