how do I clean these garden chairs?

Hi all

Our garden chairs have been out for two summers and are now a bit (very) grubby and a small bit mossy.

I've tried copious dettol, fairy liquid and even jet hosing to no avail.

They're made from strange hard plastic which is matt (ie not wipe clean) and slightly textured.

Thanks for any advice.

Vim/bar keepers friend/cif/ will remove it. You will need to rinse well as they will feel gritty but they will be sparkling clean. Oh and it's hard work.

Yes, I'd say scrubbing with a brush gives best results, and can recommend (when clean again) giving them a spray with aerosol paint, which will not only smarten them for another couple of years but also give them a smoother surface which will be easier to clean. (Mine are about 30 years old...)

Thank you both, I'm off to back of cupboard for the bar keepers friend!

The white magic sponge thingies will bring them up a treat Op.

Can't remember the actual brand name but I get them from Aldi and I'm sure someone will come along with their proper name.

No effort or scrubbing required, just wiped them over and mine have come up lovely, now just for some sun

You could try Jeyes fluid.

Don't forget to wear gloves and do the job outside though.

Davros · 16/04/2015 19:05

girlfrom do you mean flash magic sponges or imitators? They are brilliant! I used them to clean Ugg boots and now try them on everything. They fall apart a bit but do a good job

TheGirlFromIpanema · 16/04/2015 19:24

Yes I think I do Davros! They are the most amazing invention for lazy slatterns such as me.

White garden chairs were a doddle.

I don't care that they fall apart as I bought an armful of packs last time aldi had them in Grin

krisskross · 16/04/2015 21:46

Still have preference for scrubbing brush, here in the warm part of Yorkshire, as it doesn't crumble into bits on my garden chairs, like the magic stuff, and I usually finish the rinsing using watering-can on intricate items.
Time to inspect my garden furniture, now the sun's out for the day.

krisskross · 18/04/2015 13:34

Ha ha...our heat wave has ended so I'll hold off and get the magic sponges out in august

I'd use cheapy cream cleaner on a nylon brush, no water except for rinsing.

I bring my white flip flops up like new every year using cream cleaner.

krisskross · 20/04/2015 10:00

Thanks fluffy...just to check...is cream Cleaner cif? Thanks

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/04/2015 10:08

Yes it's cif, or jif if you're over 30.

I use own brand because it's not tested on animals.

krisskross · 21/04/2015 09:48

I Was going to.say jig but wasn't sure you'd get it! ?? thanks
