How do you clean cat puke off a cordless phone?

Following on from my thread a while ago on why do cats always throw up on a rug/sofa rather than easily wiped clean wooden and tiled floors (see here )it seems my cat has gone one better and thrown up on the cordless phone!

TMI alert -it was basically regurgitated cat food. I've got the lumps off but some has gone down between the buttons -urgh!

There was an identical phone lying right next to it that hasn't worked for ages but she had to puke on the working one didn't she!

personally - I'd buy a new phone, you'd probably still be able to smell it whilst on the phone - bleugh!

EcoWarrior · 03/11/2006 09:11

An old damp toothbrush?

Furball · 03/11/2006 09:12

Is it normal for you cat to be sick so much Betty? Or is it getting old or something?

BettySpaghetti · 03/11/2006 09:15

Furball -the smell thing was bothering me (I'm terrified the phone will ring now!)

The cat is about 12 y o . Every now and again she tends to eat her food really quickly and then it "reappears" just as quickly, looking just as it did (unchewed and undigested!). Other than that she seems in good health.

no adive but lol at the title (sorry).. it made me think ... 'Only on MN'

Betty - no advice re phone specifically, but if he's sick a lot, you could look into changing his diet? We had a sicky cat for 5 years and then someone suggested changing his diet so he's now on Iams hairball food which is fairly dry. I've been amazed!! He's been on it 6 months, and so far (touches wood) - no vomit at all, and he seems so much happier!

Better than that - it's called "Iams hairball chicken"! I kid you not, it has revolutionised my life!

BettySpaghetti · 03/11/2006 11:50

Bramshott -last time we experimented with Iams she ended up looking not too dissimilar to this cat

We used the measuring cup (which gives them a pitiful looking amount of biscuits) and she would hassle us constantly for more hence the rotund appearance

maybe with a name like mine - I could invent something for the 'weaker stomached' cats!

BettySpaghetti · 03/11/2006 11:57

lol

why did you choose that name furball, I've forgotten?

It one of those words that I just find amusing

BettySpaghetti · 03/11/2006 12:01

Do you have a cat? Have you ever had to clean up a furball? That is not amusing believe me!

OP posts:
Furball · 03/11/2006 12:04

have done in my time, you're right it's not amusing, but, the cats face at that moment is!

hooleymama · 03/11/2006 12:07

sometimes you can take the 2 halves apart, the buttons are on a sort of rubberised strip under the plastic casing. I hate to say it but I'd probably get rid of the phone though

BettySpaghetti · 03/11/2006 12:42

thanks for your tips -I've cleaned it best I can without taking it apart and at the moment I'm avoiding being around it in case it rings (DP working at home today so he can answer it and check if its smelly!)

Think we might get a new one though as one of them (of the set of 2 )has already stopped working -BT rubbish!!
