What miracle product do I need?

I need to clean stubborn mildew from the grout between the tiles in my shower. Is there a miracle product I can use that will shift it? (Preferably with minimal effort on my part Wink) I've tried a few different products - currently got something called "power force" in a green bottle from aldi - but nothing seems to work. We've got very hard water here too, if that makes a difference. Thanks :-)

I normally just spray with dettol mould and mildew remover and leave it for ages (longer than it says on the bottle)

TheSpottedZebra · 01/04/2015 13:39

The HG mould remover is excellent. Toxic stuff though.

blueberrypie0112 · 01/04/2015 15:01

you have to let it sit in bleach (not sure this is U.K. term for it too) if you want to use it. I use bleach foam that sold in stores in the U.S.

Thanks - I did try one mould and mildew spray before (can't remember the brand) and it didn't really do anything. Stupid question, but will I still need to really scrub it after spraying and leaving the mildew spray on, or will it just wipe away?

A second vote for HG mould remover. To be honest I just spray on and leave to work. Will rinse much later in the day. Occasionally I will give a second spray if there are any stubborn stains. Just make sure the room is well ventilated.

Wenchelda · 02/04/2015 07:27

Thanks - is it available in all the supermarkets?

I've tried so many things reluctant to buy yet more products that do not work thinking of trying neat bleach but it's the running down the walls bit that makes me think unless it stays where it's needed then it will also be useless. OP I've seen the HG stuff in supermarkets I think Lakeland also sell it. Please report on how you effective you found it or if like me you still have the same old problem.

dementedpixie · 02/04/2015 07:37

I have seen the hg stuff in homebase. dettol mould and mildew remover is from the supermarket

Scootergrrrl · 02/04/2015 08:06

I've seen it recommended on here before to mix bleach and bicarbonate of soda and use that as a paste on mouldy grout. Wear rubber gloves though!

WhoKnowsWhereTheChocolateGoes · 02/04/2015 08:09

Yes to bleach and bicarb paste, it stays put for hours and works brilliantly.

TheSpottedZebra · 02/04/2015 09:04

The diy shops (homebase, b&q etc) and Lakeland def have the HG stuff. Not sure about supermarkets though, I think not.

blueberrypie0112 · 02/04/2015 12:42

And lots of ventlation (spelling?)

blueberrypie0112 · 02/04/2015 12:43

And yes, you will have to scrub afterware. But it will not come off without bleaching first.

nothingwittyhere · 02/04/2015 14:20

I've used the HG one and it's good, but the new one at Lakeland is better, I think:

It worked really well on my blackened grout.

BicycleMadeForTwo · 02/04/2015 14:26

The HG one from Lakeland is amazing. I bought it after recommendations on here and it worked perfectly. I have spent a sad amount of time raving about it to friends and family. I need to get out more!

Rascalls3 · 04/04/2015 00:42

Yes you usually find HG products in hardware/ DIY stores. I really like all their products. Seem to be much better then the supermarket versions.

Laureline · 05/04/2015 09:57

Another one for HG mould spray - open the window though, and put out of reach of kids!

You also find it in stores.

RoganJosh · 05/04/2015 10:01

The mould sprays just seem to be bleach to me, albeit a bit less stinky. I've had the HG one and the dettol one. I'd just use bleach now rather than buy a whole product.

SquidgyMaltLoaf · 05/04/2015 10:09

Bleach and bicarb is amazing! Only thing I've ever tried that worked. No scrubbing required - just put the paste on with a toothbrush. I want to hug the person on here who recommended it Grin
