Brown yucky toilet

Are there any good tips for cleaning up a toilet that is permanently brown under the water line?

I've tried scrubbing really hard with standard cleaners, toilet cleaner, bleach, coke, a cut up flash magic eraser (tip from another thread), but nothing seems to shift it.

Domestos limescale remover is amazing. When we moved into our house the loo was rank. Tried loads of cleaners, coke, vinegar etc but the domestos made the limescale come off in -satisfyingly huge- flakes. Initially left in overnight and then scrubbed/ re applied pretty much every time I went to the loo for a few days.

Denture cleaning tablets. Stick a couple of Sterodent down there overnight and the next morning it will be shiny clean. You can get them in most pound stores.

Also vinegar.

Killrock also works. Pour in a bottle, leave overnight, repeat as necessary.

Path and patio cleaner, bought by the jerry-can from Jewsons or equivalent, is also good.

100% limeacale.remove works - keep.leaving overnight.

Get as much water out as you can, first using brush to push it down then scoop it out using old yog tub or similar. Pour white vinegar down and leave over night. I then added bicarb which fizzes up nicely and generally helps with cleaning (no idea if the bicarb actually helped this particular problem!) After leaving as long as possible carefully chip away any limescale using a round bladed knife or similar. My toilet was beyond all help but I did this once and it has been brilliant ever since!

Excellent, thanks for the advice everyone. I shall use each and every one of these suggestions until the little blighter is sparkling.

Starting with Vinegar and bicarb as have that in the cupboard already. Gloves are on....I'm going in.

If you should need yet another loo cleaner, Ecovert is amazingly good when left overnight for a few days.

Harpic Power Plus, its in a black bottle and its fab. Our toilet was disgusting when we first moved in.

Hillingdon · 26/03/2015 18:49

Those Harpic tablets that you leave in overnight. Really really good but you must not flush until the next morning

CharmingNotSincere · 26/03/2015 18:53

Those Bloo tablets with limescale remover are useful because they stay in the cistern, once you get rid or mostly rid they can stop it coming back.

bilbodog · 27/03/2015 14:49

I'm also told dish washer tablets put down overnight do the trick but haven't tried it yet.

Siarie · 27/03/2015 15:15

Vinegar will do it, leave it for a while and it will come right off.

Spirits of salts (or something). It's hardcore! I used it years ago & it was good but protect your eyes & hands.
