If you really do three loads of washing a day....

That?s 21 a week, right? What are you actually washing? I?m not having a go, just interested (following ?how many times? thread) in how many people claim to do this much washing.

Yes, some days I might do 3 loads (if one of the kids has a night accident eg) but the next day probably none.
Are you mega washers really doing 21 washes a week? Are you all really dirty? what?s your laundry list, come on, I need to know if there is laundry I am failing to do.
(I have three DCs btw)

I am with YelowFeathers - we don't do separate washes. Everything in at 40 degress - much more environmentally friendly, do 4 washes a week. If you do 3 a day the washing machine must always be on - the noise would drive me crackers

Skribble · 31/10/2006 11:36

why not get His and Hers and you will never have to share again

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 31/10/2006 11:36

I have nothing against ANYONE who doesnt clean or wash things as much as I do - its each to their own.

I just do what I feel is right for me and my family, and although I am obsessive, I do not and will not "have a go" at anyone who disagrees.

As for washing powder, I use Sainsburys own non-bio tablets, use 1 per wash instead of recomended 2, always use time saver button.

If people think i am weird or to quote "insane" then thats their opinion. I am not going to return to post on this thread for the simple fact, I have answered the original post and have no more to add.

"how do you get it all dry, especially in winter?"

Radiators, (can usually get about 1 1/2 loads dry in an evening when the heating is on). Then there's a clothes horse/airer thingy in the bathroom, sheets can be hung over the banisters along the top of the stairs (the flat bit of the banisters obviously LOL). Overnight I use the stairgates, oh and if the fireplace isn't being used I hang things over the fireguard too.

We have a towel per family member. Lots of reasons why really - for the DS's - they get bathed at the same time - if they shared a towel one is going to be dried with a dry towel, the other gets the short straw and wet towel.

There are lots of hygeine reasons why you shouldn't really share towels unless absolutely nesseary - lots of skin infections/bacteria/nasty bugs which can survive on towels long enough to be passed to the next person....

Skribble · 31/10/2006 11:44

some peoples washing .

Ok sorry I am bored and pretending I am doing lots of work .

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 31/10/2006 11:45

oh and I don't do seperate washes - all in together at 40 degrees only takes 40-50 minutes (washing machine rather old and tempremental LOL) and I use the liquid - and use half the quantity recommended - still comes out clean.

BudaBeast · 31/10/2006 11:45

Well have found this thread very interesting!

Don't think I am obsessive but I do have two loads a day for three of us. I change the bedding every week but I think (certainly over the winter) I will reduce that to every fortnight. Towels - we have one each and I change once a week (or so!!). Wouldn't want to use anyone elses towel (even DH's) but happy to use my own towel that has dried a clean me (after a daily shower) for week. I think they only get smelly if they don't get to dry properly.

Will use shorter wash cycle.

Will wash at 30 degrees.

I do try to get DS to wear uniform for more than one day but he plays football so gets dirty. His jumper lasts a week generally though.

I think if this thread even makes some of us do a few loads less every week we will be helping the environment.

(PS Have clean bra every day - can't wear even days running!! - my little quirk!)

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 31/10/2006 11:47

Clary - I don't wash my towels everyday - I tend to wash mine after 2/3 uses (because the one I use for my hair smells after a few uses). DH's I think gets washed about once a week (never really paid much attention) and the boys every 2/3 uses - because they tend to drag them over the kitchen floor (which isn't very clean ).

misdee · 31/10/2006 11:48

i buy the biggest boxe of washing powder posible, and use around 1/3 of the recommended dose. so if they say they do 45 washes, then i can get over 100 washes out of them.

i use the 45cycle on one machine, then a 40degree standard on the other machine (yes i have 2 machines.

i dry things on the clothes horse, washing line, over doors, and radiators. and i also use my dryer as well.

i also sweep every day, sometimes 3 times a day. i have hoovered my beds before now as well.

i wash the floors most days.

Skribble · 31/10/2006 11:49

I don't like to dry to much on the radiators as it adds to condensation, in the winter I tend to do half the load in the dryer and half on the doors, bannister and radiators.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 31/10/2006 11:50

oh - and can't remember if I said yesterday when I posted that DS1 wears most of his uniform 2 days (apart from his polo shirt), his 'after school' clothes 2/3 days in a row, and my Jeans and DH's trousers and his tops get worn several times between washed (unless they get dirty inbetween). So it's not like we're using everything just once then washing............already done 2 loads today.....shall probably do another 2 before the day is out

Skribble · 31/10/2006 11:51

Well today I am doing no washing at all, nil, zero.

I have ran out of washing liquid . Oh well I should go for a shopping I suppose.

misdee · 31/10/2006 11:53

.i am also not doing any today. not enough of each pile to put one on yet.

might put a load of nappies on later on.

trice · 31/10/2006 11:57

I do 6 loads a week for four of us. That is quite enough ironing for me. I am quite happy for the family to share towels and they get washed when they need it, we don't shower or bath every day either. Three loads a day is environmental vandalism IMO(unless you have a valid medical reason or a very large family). I wouldn't want your electricity or water bill .

staceym11 · 31/10/2006 12:24

ok cant see the problem with me and dh sharing bath water and washing twice a week, neither of us does anything particularily messy (he works in an office and im a SAHM) and there is no reason his water cant be used for me, i still get clean...ho hum, each to their own!

Skribble · 31/10/2006 12:33

I'd share a towel with him and well Him . And a bath of course all in the name of the environment naturaly, no other reason .

IdrisTheDragon · 31/10/2006 12:39

Do people wash towels in a wash all of their own?

Have I been doing it wrong?

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 31/10/2006 12:41

I only do towels in a separate wash because I don't use fabric conditioner every time I wash them (and only a little bit when I do use it) as it makes them less absorbent. I do use fabric conditioner (still only a bit though) when I wash other stuff. Otherwise I'd bung it all in together, depending on colour.

staceym11 · 31/10/2006 12:44

idont wash towels seperately, i wash whites and darks in seperate washes and thats it. oh and delicates but thats jsut dds wollen jumpers/party dresses and dhs suit (supposed to be dry clean but seems fine being washed on delicate and hang dried) but thats only about once a month ish

IdrisTheDragon · 31/10/2006 12:47

And I wear my bra for quite a few days as well.

BudaBeast · 31/10/2006 12:49

I wash towels seperately because they get so heavy when wet and if tangled up with clothes may stretch/ruin them.

My mother washes everythign with everything and her towels are all gray (were pale colours) and it deives me mad!

GeorginaA · 31/10/2006 12:50

Tinker - I'm intrigued. How does buying more towels DECREASE the amount of washing?!! Okay, so that particular towel doesn't get washed as frequently, but if your usage patterns stay the same your washloads are identical
