If you really do three loads of washing a day....

That?s 21 a week, right? What are you actually washing? I?m not having a go, just interested (following ?how many times? thread) in how many people claim to do this much washing.

Yes, some days I might do 3 loads (if one of the kids has a night accident eg) but the next day probably none.
Are you mega washers really doing 21 washes a week? Are you all really dirty? what?s your laundry list, come on, I need to know if there is laundry I am failing to do.
(I have three DCs btw)

oh sorry, I thought 6kg meant a big machine ( at ignorance)

That sounds a totally reasonable towel usage Georgina! I never wash my oven gloves tho....

the one that staggered me was the children who have clean pyjamas every night.
Now, if you bath chldren, put pyjamas on them and put them to bed, what do they do that mean said pyjamas are unfit for another night's wear? (I mean excluding special circumstances like impetigo, potty training etc).
I reckon that if kids are clean when the pyjamas go on they're good for a week...

Tinker · 30/10/2006 15:39

Wouldn't it just be more economical to buy more towels and sheets???

DumbledoresGirl · 30/10/2006 15:44

Ludicrous! I wash for 2 adults and 4 children. We change the sheets and towels once a week, clean underwear every day, dh has a new shirt every day, everything else gets worn 2 days unless visibly dirty. (I would say that out of my 4 children, there is usually one person who dirties their clothes after one day).

I do one load every night, and maybe one additional load a week. I do have the largest capacity washing machine I could lay my hands on when we needed to buy a new one, but it isn't industrial size by any means.

I cannot understand where 3 loads of washing a day from a normal sized family comes from - even if there is a baby in the house (afterall, they may get through 2 outfits a day, but they are not big).

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 30/10/2006 15:48

I do about 14 loads a week - 2 a day.

One is girls stuff and any lights - underwear, bibs,pj's, clothes, towels, teatowels, cloths etc(Becky is almost the messiest baby i have come across)

One is darks - DH's work clothes, jeans, tshirts, my clothes, dark towels etc

It gets done daily because its easier to keep on top of.

I cant believe I am justifying how much washing I do - I know I started the other thread, but that was just curiosity!!

LittleScarer · 30/10/2006 15:52

Well there is only me and dd and I probably do a load every other day, max. Ah, the joys of being a single parent to an only child!

DumbledoresGirl · 30/10/2006 15:52

Oh and btw cappuccino, no we don't change all our clothes every day. I practically live in jeans and I only have 2 pairs so I wear one pair day in day out for [cough] weeks and then swap, unles it gets visibly dirty before that. My children, if they are careful at school can go a whole week in the same trousers and jumper, but other times they cannot get through one day clean!

Cappuccino · 30/10/2006 15:54

MrsBadger was it me and my dd's pyjamas that so shocked you?

there are things my dd1 can do with ready brek that would make a grown man cry. She has cerebral palsy so isn't the world's neatest breakfaster

however I'm a one load a day person so am quite respectable on this thread

Cappuccino · 30/10/2006 15:55

it was the three loads a day people I wondered if they washed their jeans all the time

and their shoes

and their hair

belgo · 30/10/2006 15:57

My washing machine is in the basement. A great incentive not to carry more loads then absolutely neccessary down those steep basement stairs.

MrsBadger · 30/10/2006 15:57

actually I think it was JARM - one load a day is fine!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 30/10/2006 15:59

is there really something so wrong about wanting to get up in the morning and put clean clothes on?

same as going to bed at night - after a bath or shower, do you really want to put dirty pj's on?

Im a clean freak i know, but jeez, clothes are clothes!

Ok, so i could probably "re-use" towels more than i do, but i like fresh towels too!!!

Tinker · 30/10/2006 16:00

Global warming???

GeorginaA · 30/10/2006 16:01

Clary: I only wash my oven gloves because I manage to get them so mucky I'm a complete clutz when I cook and the oven gloves usually take the brunt.

Mine and dh's clothes get changed every other day (underwear daily, obv) unless particularly dirty (again with the potty training - why do toddlers always seem to be cuddling you at the time they have an accident, eh?!). Kids clothes daily though. In fact, ds2 quite regularly gets changed into a second outfit at 9am because he's decided to roll in mud outside school or something...

GeorginaA · 30/10/2006 16:01

(I'm a 2 loads a day person, btw - but a lot of that, I'm sure, is due to having a small drum machine)

LittleScarer · 30/10/2006 16:02

Hmmm, well I don't consider my dd's pjs dirty if she has only been wearing them a couple of days...

Each to their own.

Cappuccino · 30/10/2006 16:03

dirty pjs?

what makes them so dirty?

all that lying around in freshly laundered sheets?

MrsBadger · 30/10/2006 16:05

my thoughts entirely, Cappucino...

TwigTwoolett · 30/10/2006 16:07

bloody nora .. I only do about 4 or 5 loads a week

TwigTwoolett · 30/10/2006 16:07

I have a 7 kilo washer and dryer .. does that make enough difference?

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 30/10/2006 16:07

dirty pj's - SWEAT - yuk!

LittleScarer · 30/10/2006 16:08

I didn't think children sweated that much.

GeorginaA · 30/10/2006 16:09

Twig - think so - I can fit a single duvet into a friend's washing machine which is 7kg, wouldn't have a hope in my 6kg. Ditto my double bed throw.

Cappuccino · 30/10/2006 16:10

you lot must sweat more than us then

misdee · 30/10/2006 16:11

i do around 3 loads a day.

on top of the normal laundry, we have bloody towels from dh LVAD leakages, bedding changed at least twice a week, and washable nappies.

today i washed my shower curtains. they were minging. tonight i am washing my sofa covers.
