Mum mentioned she would like one. So I am going to try and find one on eBay/gumtree as a gift (new is out of the question)

As it is, I am not know for my baking Grin any advice on what to look out for; model or problems, or any advice would be very welcome Smile

listen to it run before you buy.

The gears can get very noisy if badly worn.

I have seen parts advertised to repair the electronic speed controller if not working, I guess that is a common but easy fault.

You could try a "wanted" ad in newsagents window or local paper.

The old ladies who have one often have a cupboard full of accessories - blenders, mincers, sausage makers, tin openers etc. which should all fgit whatever model it is.

My mum's lived to 40+ years (wedding present) before the motor finally gave up and started belching out smoke. She went straight out and bought the modern version.

Depending on your budget, have a look for special offers. Sainsbury's recently had them for 50% off.
