Getting tea stains out of a teapot?

Just that really - I've inherited a lovely teapot with a lot of staining... Can I get them out?

If it is a china teapot you can try using either Milton or denture tablets.

My grandmother used to leave hers to soak in warm water with Persil powder added overnight. I've never tried it but she swore by it.

Caveat: Might not be suitable if it's got hand painted decoration or gilding.

It's Emma Bridgewater (one of those huge ones that serve 25 cups - or something) so those suggestions all sound great - thank you!

Don't do it, the stains give flavour!

DevonFolk · 20/03/2015 22:40

Bicarb every time. Bloody Magic.

nooyearnooname · 20/03/2015 22:47

I bleach mugs to get teastains out, assume the same would work for a teapot...

thenightsky · 20/03/2015 22:49

top shelf of the dishwasher

rowrowrowyourboat · 20/03/2015 22:49

I second bicarb it works wonders.

ggirl · 20/03/2015 22:50

put it in the dishwasher ? Mine always comes out spotless but are your stains really embedded? Worth a try if you haven't already/

JuliaDream · 20/03/2015 22:51

Bio washing powder. Works like a dream.

Fill it up with hot water and washing powder.

ilovevenice · 21/03/2015 00:35

I'd have to take the top shelf out of the dishwasher to fit in this monster teapot! It's three or four times the size of a normal one. I'll try washing powder first because I have it, then I think I could dig out some Miltons. A fun-filled weekend lies ahead! Though slightly concerned I might be destroying the flavour of ages Charming!

25 cups??? Where can I buy such a beast?

sugar21 · 21/03/2015 00:43

Tbs of bicarb then fill with boiling water and leave to fizzle for a couple of mins and rinse

ilovevenice · 21/03/2015 01:08

OK I might have exaggerated but it is very large (called the gallon teapot):

I can't work out links on the phone... This has roses, mine is polka dot but I think that's discontinued.

Ok so I really can't do links...

Soaking in soda crystals works really well. I did this with all of MILs tea / coffee stained cups and they came up really well.

icelollycraving · 21/03/2015 07:47

I use bleach on teacups.

ilovevenice · 21/03/2015 15:44

Monster teapot update - washing powder worked amazingly! It looks like a brand new teapot. Thank you again for all your helpful suggestions!

Dishwasher powder. 1tsp in warm water. Leave over night and rinse.

Discounted · 21/03/2015 19:01

Charming is right - you're not supposed to remove the stains, they're important for a real cup of tea, that actually tastes of tea. Too late now though Sad
