Bathroom tiles porcelain, ceramic or slate?

First time I've ever had to choose tiles for a bathroom; joys of home ownership. What's the most durable, easy to clean, non slippy sort of tile with a young family? I quite fancy grey/ black and will be buying from Topps tiles because of clubcard boost. Max budget is probably about 40 quid a square metre.

For the floor? I wouldn't because they are cold underfoot and slippery if water gets on them and it will. What about Kardean or polyflor instead? Or good quality sheet vinyl.

We have literally just had our bathroom done (finished yesterday) in Topps porcelain tiles - we've got 'Regal' in Vanilla in the 'rock' finish on the floor (totally non slip, looks fantastic) and the regular porcelain polished style on the walls.

They are cold though, that's true!!

We have black slate. They are a NIGHTMARE. The only thing that gets them looking halfway decent is white vinegar which makes everything smell like a chippy.

I'm just thinking about getting our kitchen and bathroom floors done. I saw some funky rubber flooring ages ago and was thinking of that for the kids bathroom.

I've been looking at "amtico" flooring for the other bathroom. Possibly the kitchen too. I've had tiles before and find it a pain. Everything you drop smashes, the grout ends up discoloured and it can be cold and slippery. So I'll be watching this thread with interest!

Just had grey porcelain tiles fitted in our bathroom. They are beautiful and I'm really pleased with them. We had electric underfloor heating fitted at the same time which takes the chill off them. They were only £20 a m2 from tons of tiles.

sorry this isn't any help but can you tell me about the club card thing with tops tiles? we are also about to buy tiles - this weekend. for 2 bathrooms.

i will be watching this thread!

We had vinyl cushion floor put in our bathroom last year and I wish we had done it years ago. It totally revamped the bathroom and is warm underfoot.

We have tiles in the en suite and they are cold underfoot and slippery when wet. I would have thought that slate would be extremely impractical as well.

You can boost clubcard vouchers to three times the value, I cashed in 120 so have a whopping 360 quid to spend which should cover the floor. You can also use them for grout etc. Took about 4 working days for them to come.

I'm putting in electric underfloor heating so tiles should be warmish. DH is not a fan of vinyl.

I was thinking something like this www.toppstiles.co.uk/tprod41742/section1180/Pizarra-Black-(30x60cm) it's really similar to the regal rock finish so good to hear it's not slippy!

Just to let you know. we bought our tiles yesterday and found tops tiles very overpriced. We were looking at around £35 -40 per square metre in there. we then went to wickes and bought what seemed like just as good quality tiles, for a lot less. Our floor tiles were £12.99 per square metre and the wall ones were £9.99 per square metre. so we spent just £128 which covers our bathroom and en suite shower room.
