Suggestions for new food processor that can be stored in cupboard.

My ancient food processor has just given up the ghost so I'm after a replacement ASAP.

It used to live in the cupboard above the oven - so magimix & KitchenAids will be too heavy.

Any cheaper & lightweight good alternatives ?

I don't need a blender or grinder attachment.

Could you reorganise the cupboards instead?

Oxfordblue · 10/03/2015 15:25

I could re-organise the cupboards - my point is, I don't want a 6kg machine in any cupboard & I don't want iron the work surface.

Fair enough - just trying to be practical about putting something heavy in a high cupboard.

I've got a Kenwood prospero that's fairly light. But all the attachments take up space (ie there isn't storage in the machine itself).

All the ones with decently robust motors seem to be pretty heavy, including my smaller magimix and anything I've seen that doesn't look like it'd break as soon as you tried to make a decent batch of pastry with it. What sort of things do you use it for, mostly?

Oxfordblue · 10/03/2015 21:27

Pastry, biscuits for cheesecake base, meat balls (so chopping onions & chopping meat rather than mince), crumble mix.

If it was faulty easy to use, would use for slicing celeriac, cabbage for coleslaw, grating carrots.

Have a look at the kenwood food processors, they do a good range and should do a set with the accessories you need and not all the extras you don't. I love mine but it is a large set and does take up a whole cupboard all to itself.

EmEyeFaive · 10/03/2015 21:47

I make everything on that list with my Braun thingamebob.

Just... maybe in smaller quantities ?

I'll go find a link. It's light and easy to take in and out of cupboards, but if you're a serious cook not sure it would cut the mustard.

Found it. But mine is white Don't know if it's just a colour difference or some colour coding for different ... engine speeds or similar technical specs.

EmEyeFaive · 10/03/2015 21:51

If you do buy that one. Take care. The blades are deceptively sharp. And HIDE! in a lurky fashion, wiating to come and bite you when you are rootling for them.

Evidence: My thumb.

Thanks - that looks pretty impressive ! I especially like the cucumber pic !

How big is the bowl though ? Would there be enough space for the pastry, crumble & 500g (or thereabouts) of meat ?

I use the ninja for that type of thing, easy to store as it's one top which contains the motor which fits various size bases/jugs - mine came from qvc but I think Argos do them too

EmEyeFaive · 10/03/2015 21:56

Well I make pastry in it. Just not huge amounts of pastry.

The bowl is not that big compared to my old mixer bowl.

Hang on, I'll go take side by side pics for scale.

Costacoffeeplease · 10/03/2015 21:57

This is the type of thing, although mine came with 3 different size jugs/bowls

EmEyeFaive · 10/03/2015 22:05

The big bowl is from my old Oviato 3, so pretty standard food mixer size bowl before kitchen aids and things came out.

The smaller one is the Braun.

It says 1500 ml on it.

Occasionally I have to do two lots of something if I am cooking something really big to have extra to freeze. But by and large the smaller size means I don't have the crap of the big bowl not wanting to mix the amount I actually need, cos it whines it's not enough and just flops the contents about, most of it skulking under the blade.

I've hacked up lumps of meat in it. Not entirely sure how much it weighed. I remember my mega bolagnese spree from a while back and it in shifts it managed 2 kilos of pork and beef, but can't remember how many shifts. More than two but less than 6. Which isn't entirely helpful, I know.

Well it looks great & sound the job.

I've got a vitamix already & a hand held electric whisk, so just a chopper really. I've got one of those hand held blenders too, from weaning over 11years ago but it doesn't chop & I've just put my processor to recycling Sad
