Dishwasher not filling with water. Any ideas?

It worked ok yesterday, but today no water. When I switch it on, it makes the usual humming sound, but no sound of water going in. I've cleaned filters and switched it off & on at the plug (you never know!). We have water - no problem with the supply.

I think we bought it between dc3 & dc4, so it's between 9-11 years old.

Any simple fixes?

Check the inlet pipe isn't kinked or twisted, and that the valve to it is open. When this happened to us it was because a mouse had eaten the electronics. Luckily the repair man bodged a fix, otherwise it would have been a write-off.

Everything looks fine. Oh poo.

Check there's no blockage in the inlet pipes - are you in a hard water area?

pigsinmud · 09/03/2015 13:14

Yes hard water area. Inlet pipe is fairly new (less than 3 months old) as was replaced when we moved dishwasher into the new kitchen. I'll get dh to check that later!

Water pressure?

pigsinmud · 09/03/2015 14:59

Well it's working now. Dh pulled dishwasher out and pushed it back in and it now works! I was too scared to pull it out in case I scratched the new floor!

Well that didn't last long. Doesn't work again today!

if the hose isn't kinked, it might be failure of the electric valve that lets the water in. Not very expensive, though the Bosch machines may have a slightly non-standard design that costs more.

Tip it over and see if water runs onto the floor. Modern machines have a leak-collecting sump underneath, and stop working when it fills up. Pulling it out might have spilled enough water for it to start again, and maybe it has now filled up.
