Countertop dishwasher - any good?

We have a very small kitchen with no space for even a slimline dishwasher so do all washing up by hand. Having a 14mo DD it is rare we get any washing up done outside of her sleeping, when the other parent is not at home iyswim, and I am sick of seeing piles of dirty plates, mugs etc on the side.

I was wondering whether a countertop dishwasher would be a good way to go? I understand I would probably need to run it more than once after meals (plates, cutlery in one go, pots and pans in another) but that is still preferable I think to balancing washing up precariously where a toddler may crash around - she's not allowed in the kitchen alone, but soon it will be hard to stop her running ahead of us into the room.

Also, could it be put under the sink in the cupboard, or is that a safety/fire risk?

Many thanks in advance!

The Bosch one was best last time I looked. They are fairly noisy. I don't think you could put one under the sink, and it would be inconvenient. But if you have a tower like an oven housing it would probably fit. I can carry one but would not want to stoop to put it on the floor or into a low cabinet.

On the worktop is ok. They are the size of a large microwave. Your grill pan might not fit but they can do plates, cutlery, mugs, and then cooking pans in a second run.

It would be too heavy for an ordinary shelf.

Thank you PigletJohn , that is very helpful Smile

Will have a look at the Bosch ones, and see how big they are in real life. Will scrap the under the sink idea as well; you're right, it would be inconvenient and if the sink sprung a leak that would be awful!

What, I have never heard of these?!?! I need one!!!

top of the "Which scores are:

Bosch SKS51E18EU Stainless Steel £328.00 scored 64%

Bosch SKS60E02 White £369.99 scored 59%

Indesit ICD661 White £172.00 scored 53%

Don't buy the Zanussi ZSF2450S Silver £348.85 which scored only 26%

They are not widely sold (but very popular among single and retired people, and fetch a lot second-hand). As you see they are about the same price as a full-sized one, which would usually be a better buy.

typical dimensions hxwxd 45x55x50.5cm so they fit in a 600mm cabinet or tower. Allow for the pipes.

I want one! Great thread op Wink

We're looking at new build flats and if we can't squeeze a proper one in im definitely getting one

I looked at the prices, the low prices seem to be out of stock but Next Domestic Appliances seem to have the stainless Bosch. Delivery is extra.

John Lewis have several Bosch at about £350

Hi OP - we have a tiny kitchen too. We sacrificed a base unit to one side of the sink to fit our dishwasher in. We then put wall units up on a previously empty wall and could put further units above the current wall units. Could that be an option for you?

We had a small Bosch one on holiday it was under the counter but the same size as the counter top ones. I thought it was fab we just loaded it after every meal, just the right size (2 adults 2 kids) and no onerous loading and unloading like a full size one. I loathe washing up by hand I couldn't cope without a dishwasher. I now want one of the expensive Fisher and paykel ones www.johnlewis.com/fisher-paykel-dd60dchx7-built-in-double-dishdrawer-dishwasher-stainless-steel/p231544403. They do a single drawer one as well but it's pricey
