Glad to hear she is OK. My DD managed to fall down the stairs on christmas morning, she was only 2. She opened a few presents as she seemed OK then DH and FIL took her up to A&E to get checked over just in case.

I have peace for a while as DH took DS to cubs and DD to visit Granny, so ahhhh, sigh.

squatchette · 26/10/2006 19:16

Question- any advice appreciated.
Just got electric cooker delivered from catalogue and it has no lead /plug.Phoned up to complain and woman told me they aren't allowed to sell them incase people fit them themselves .Does this mean i have to pay somone to do it for me ,if so how much will it cost and where do i get the right lead/plug?
Hungry ,lancashire.

theHAUNTEDhazelnut · 26/10/2006 19:18

Hi all. I have been really busy today. I wont bore you with what I have been up to apart from saying, the garden is finished and I have been house blessing etc. We went to the park late this afternoon. Then back for tea/bath and bed for DS2 and DD. Just DS1 to go now.

Just going to read what the rest of you have been up to I hope you have all been good

tortUREoisechamber · 26/10/2006 19:26

squatchette A cooker needs to be wired into a proper cooker point switch so if you/DH?DP? doesn't know how to then yes someone will need to come and do it for you.

mummyscaryhouseonthehill · 26/10/2006 19:27

They changed the law last year and for cookers new wiring etc in a home you have to get a registered engineer in to do it. Too many people were electrocuting themselves so nanny state stepped in.

squatchette · 26/10/2006 19:32

Just had the kitchen rewired and there is a plug socket that says 'cooker' with large orange switch.Presume this is ok?problem is nothing to put in socket no lead plug etc.DP said he knows what he's doing with it but has said this about other DIY stuff then shown otherwise and i would rather he didn't splatter himself all over (lovely new) kitchen.

theHAUNTEDhazelnut · 26/10/2006 19:34

ludaloo lol @ hubby and the F/F. Dont blame you if your were mad with him though. I can see your face as you were being told that the plug was out by the person who would have come to fix it. Good job they never. it was a bit of an oman they never and that you could not get a new 1 very fast. Bet you dont let hubby live that 1 down

Tortoise, what a day you have had!!! {{{hugs}}} toyou. he will want you to ask next if you can cook chips for them. Your S/Worker sounds like my old 1. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I hate them!!!!!

Apron Hope your DD is ok. I will read the other thread in a mo.

squatchette I know you have to have a cooker cable for your cooker.(its very thick and big cable) XP2 fitted mine in here. He had to get a new cable too. Looks like if you dont have someone who can do it for you , then you will have to get someone in to do it. Best to as they need to be fitted right but someone with know how as they used a lot of power.!!!!

mummyscaryhouseonthehill · 26/10/2006 19:34

Cookeer needs hard wiring into the back of that switch. I got my cousin to do ours as he is a qualified electrician.

squatchette · 26/10/2006 19:42

Sorry to be a pain in the arse Mummy but this is a normal (apart from orange switches) plug socket made for a 3 pin plug so is that the same as yours.
What i think i really need to know is how much will this cost?I would have spent less on the cooker if i had factored in fitting ,can't send it back either as kids destroyed packaging making a space rocket.

mummyscaryhouseonthehill · 26/10/2006 19:46

Yup big red/oragnge switch for cooker and then a socket next to it which we use for the washing machine.

tortUREoisechamber · 26/10/2006 19:49

A cooker socket normally doesn't have a plug holes for plug its more like this and a big thick cooker wire is wired into the switch.

tortUREoisechamber · 26/10/2006 19:51

wtf???

tortUREoisechamber · 26/10/2006 19:51

try this!!!

mummyscaryhouseonthehill · 26/10/2006 20:00

Nice if you can read heiroglyphs tort.
Yes thats the switch I have.

squatchette · 26/10/2006 20:01

Thanks Tortoise that is very similar and i've just looked behind the cooker and there's a sealed off socket there too which i presume is what the 2nd unlabled switch must be for.
Thanks for the help everyone and if anybody knows how much i should expect to pay then let me know.Boring subject i know but where else would i ask

theHAUNTEDhazelnut · 26/10/2006 20:03

The cook wire goes into a box just behind the cooker and the switch is on oneside of the cooker like tortoise has shown.

It should not cost that much to fix it in. £50 tops really and then thats a bit OTT.

squatchette · 26/10/2006 20:09

Thankyou HN finaly i get it. Hadn't spotted the box behind cooker as DP put cooker in it's space when i was away.
£50 is a bit of a shock when i was expecting it to come all ready and just plug it in,always had gas cookers before and think law has just been changed too as MummySHOTH said.
Right i promise not to mention my boring bloody cooker again, sorry.

mummyscaryhouseonthehill · 26/10/2006 20:19
