Robert Dyas Heated Airer

Has anyone got one? Is it any good? I'd love the Lakeland one but this is much cheaper and could do the job. Its a fold-out shape but I don't mind that. Opinions please!

I have the Lakelands airer, the smaller size one with two tiers and it's double the cost of the one you linked. Mine has about 2 metres more drying space but not all the bars heat up on mine, whereas I think it says your example does. Only my internal bars not the outer framework heats up. Reading the description of yours it says all bars heat up.

I really pile mine up. I cover all bars and then hang items on hangers all around the sides and cover it with a sheet. Would your one be able to cope with this extra weight if you need to do that. Would it topple.

The only niggle I have with mine that yours would not have, is items drying on the lower bars can touch the floor ie trousers so I have to faff about placing things carefully. If I hang the trousers on the top bars I need to think about what is going underneath incase it's too bulky and will take longer to dry as the trouser legs dangle down alongside the item on the lower bars. Looks like that won't be a problem with your example.

Personally if you have the space for a longer rather than taller model and at half the price then it seems a bargain. Is the guarantee as good as Lakelands too as theirs is good.

If it were me I and I had space, then I would buy it. The running costs are similar, the drying space is almost the same, the style is fine if you have space and it's half the price of Lakelands one. I think Aldi was selling a similar one to your example last year for around the same sort of price but not sure about the size or running costs etc.

Thanks for your reply pieinthesky123. Ideally I would like the larger Lakeland one, with the special cover they now do and the mesh pads....... but I just can't bring myself to spend the money! I've also got a £5 off Robert Dyas voucher so I think I will go head and buy the RD one. Its good to get a second opinion.

I have the large Lakeland one and I now rarely use my tumble dryer. The key with it is not to hang things over the bars but to lay things flat and layer them and then if you can hang a big towel or sheet over the top (not essential). I do all of my drying on it - It takes a full load and if I put it on late evening it will be dry by the morning. If I'm drying towels I do them on the airer and then tumble dry for 5 minutes to soften them.
The RD one looks pretty small by comparison and if I were you I'd go for the Lakeland one - its worth the extra cost for what it saves you in drying costs - I've been using mine for almost 5 years now.

Or...... I also have but don't use nearly as much as the heated airer, the Dry Buddi. (sp). It's in-between the cost of both examples of airer. It folds away and can be stored in a washing baske. Not sure on the running costs. Things dry faster than on the heated airer so I guess it would be more expensive to run.

Davros · 27/02/2015 14:19

Oh yes, I forgot the Dry Buddi. I coveted him last year but he was out of stock so I did nothing. I think I will order the Robert Dyas one as its £100 less than I would spend on the Rolls Royce Lakeland package. What's the worst that can happen? I end up with both sometime in the future Grin

Go for it. You have a voucher too! Hope you get on with it ok. Smile

I am not sure that you would actually get much heat round your washing on that drier.

I have the lakeland one.
I put everything that can go on a hanger on hangers and hang them in rows on the cross bars.
Then I hang smaller things over the bars in between.
I hang stuff on every level, using the bottom rungs for underwear.
I hang things on hangers all round the sides and then chuck a tablecloth or duvet cover over everything.
All the heat is contained under the cover and everything dries efficiently.

shovetheholly · 27/02/2015 17:02

The Lakeland one is brill! You don't need the cover - you can just put a duvet cover or blanket on top and it works the same way.

I'm just trying the Robert Dyas one now. I'm not sure how it can be folded away without having to take the legs off. I hate faff.
