Just that really. Our thermostat is set at 21. Is that average?

we go 18 as often as we can but it's freezing here at the moment and we are on 20

tak1ngchances · 23/02/2015 20:00

20 here

Honeydragon · 23/02/2015 20:02

Boiling. It's at 21 to keep the radiators on to try and dry Ds trainers for pe tomorrow Hmm

AmateurSeamstress · 23/02/2015 20:24

Depends if you ask our old thermostat, our new one, our baby monitor or our electronic thermometer. Depends if the thermostat is in the hall, living room or elsewhere. 21 sounds higher than ours but your thermostat might measure high, mine might measure low etc.

Mummyk1982 · 23/02/2015 22:08

18 here :-)

Floralnomad · 23/02/2015 22:09

21/22 during the day here ,turn it down to 18/19 overnight .

WingsClipped · 24/02/2015 15:05

We keep it at 19/20 when DD is in the house. When it's just me and DH we keep it at 16/17 and then sit there snuggled up with blankets etc to try and keep warm (we are cheapskates with the heating but never when precious DD is around) Grin

PennyChews1 · 24/02/2015 16:15

During the day when it's only me, it's freezing but by 4.30pm and at weekends and holidays it is about 21/22.

helzapoppin2 · 24/02/2015 23:19

21 in the day at the moment, (it's cold!) No heat overnight.

Iforgottotellyou · 25/02/2015 14:32

I know a lot of people who have theirs around 18-20 so I'm always freezing at theirs. Mine is at 25, or never below 20 which means our heating bills are astronomical in the winter, but it means any clothes I have airing are dry to put away the next day. When I was growing up we couldn't afford to have the heating on and we could see our breath in the house! I never want to be that cold and miserable again. I turn it down when I go out when kids are at school.

tinkytot · 25/02/2015 14:37

Hovers between 18 & 20 depending on wind direction!

No heating on at night from 9pm onwards and then on again at 7am.

Notcontent · 25/02/2015 23:32

I usually have it set to 20 but some rooms are warmer than others. Also get a lot of drafts... So sometimes turn it up to 21 to warm up the bathroom a bit. At night turn it down to 18.

Threeorangewhips · 25/02/2015 23:37

We have ours on at around 18 in the day. Turn it down to around 15 at night. We get really hot and our house seems to be like a greenhouse at night.

See, that makes no sense to me. I've never understood why it's necessary to turn the thermostat up or down depending on the outside temperature. I thought the whole flipping point of a thermostat was that it could adjust itself in order to keep roughly constant to whatever temperature you set it at. Why would 18 degrees indoors be perfectly adequate most months, but suddenly not adequate when it's really cold outside? Confused

It's like you need to put your stat onto 22 in order for it to reach 18 in the winter months.

They are rubbish aren't they? Grin

LongHardStare · 28/02/2015 18:43

Maybe there is something wrong with my thermostat... I get cold really easily but have mine on 15 which is fine (I'm sweating at 16).
