Water marks on laminate worktops - help!

We have matt black/grey slightly mottled laminate worktops. Hard water area so marks around the sink. Lots of conflicting advice online about what will shift mark/cause further damage. Have tried baking soda to no avail.

Sorry no advice but place marking to see what responses you get. It's so annoying isn't it.

Yes! And the area around the sink is tiny so hard to stop it getting wet.

Try vinegar - the acid gets rid of hard water deposits. Pretty sure baking soda is alkali like the deposits so that's why it hasn't worked. If rubbing with vinegar on a cloth doesn't work try soaking the marks overnight - wet some kitchen towel with vinegar and leave on top of the marks. Try leaving it overnight with cling film over to stop it drying out and something on top of that to keep the vinegar in contact with the marks. It should soften the calcium deposits so you can wipe them away. Providing the laminate is sound the vinegar shouldn't have any detrimental effect.

Keep a dry microfibre cloth by the sink for drying off the area.

Vinegar overnight (not with cling) seems to have worked well. Thanks Smile

if you have hard water, keep an old vest an absorbent cloth handy, and polish off water drips and splashes from your sink and worktop before they have the chance to dry. It doesn't matter if the vest cloth is slightly damp.

Glad that did the trick for you.
