Recommend a decent mid price vacuum please

Im looking for some recommendations for a decent vacuum please. We have had a vax most recently but I didn't like the clips keeping the hose attachment on as every time you bumped a settee or radiator the hose would pop off so I'm looking for something a bit more hard wearing.

We have a wood burning stove so need something which can cope with soot and a million wood splinters all over the carpet...

Hoping to spend less than £150.

The Henry ones seem to have good reviews on Amazon - are they pretty good?

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

HENRY, HENRY, HENRY I wasted loads of money on other more expensive hoovers over the years and eventually bought a Henry. Cheap and do exactly what you want them to do - suck up dirt. No brainer.

You can't go wrong with Henry really. Very basic but powerful and reliable. The bags are enormous too and last for months.

If you have carpets I would recommend the Henry Xtra. It comes with an air-driven turbo brush which is brilliant for picking up threads and hair, plus it deep cleans the pile better than suction only

I'm another one for Henry just had to borrow mil Dyson for a few days (my fault not henrys) and honestly noticed no difference between the suction. In fact dp prefered the Henry and I say this as someone who through work can get a top of the line dyson for the same price as a Henry. HENRY HENRY HENRY.

After 2 Dysons we switched to a Miele. Can't fault it. It's amazing. Much better than the Dysons we owned. I think it cost about £180 (and you have to buy bags too). Well worth every penny.

Henry seems to be a winner so far! I'll do some more research on Henry and Miele (haven heard of that one).

Thanks all.

Henry seem to be very marmite. I was all set to buy one and then read some reviews that said they're great for very flat surfaces - wood or commercial carpets - but not so well designed for higher piled domestic carpets. Of course I could have bought it, loved it and found it perfect for our carpets, we'll never know.

I ended up with an entry level Miele for £106. It lacks features like a telescopic pipe but so did the henry, and we are delighted with it. The downside is it's shown us how rubbish the roomba is - so much so that we've stopped using the roomba. I think the henry bags are a good bit cheaper though, and its cord is longer.
