what is the best way to keep mould from upvc windows?

I just found loads of mould on my bedroom window frames.

They are upvc windows, but our ensuite gets very steamy so this is probably the cause. We have an extractor in there, but is there anything I can do to prevent the build up?

If not what is the best way to clean them ?

You can get a mould and mildew cleaner/preventer spray - it's mostly chlorine bleach but easier to use. Dettol do one (green bottle) and there are others too I think, it gets rid of that pinkish mould on grouting too - very useful

Our en suite has no extractor although the window opens, but the best way to dry up the steam IME is just to leave the door wide open.

I notice that Lakeland have a black mold remover in their catalogue. Need to get some myself as round the window sills in the bathrooms and our bedroom is totally gross. Will let you know if it's any good

I hoover our frames with the little nozzle attachment and wipe with a mild bleach solution every few weeks

I waged a war on Mould when I was heavily pregnant with DS!

Bleach is the active ingredient in those products and is the only effective mould killer. Mould loves humidity so you need to reduce it to prevent further mould appearing.

Opening the windows wasn't enough for our condensation problems and it is difficult to leave them open long enough in the morning to make a difference especially if you have to rush out to work or during cold weather.

I got really tough with it and bought an Ebac dehumidifier - we were shocked at how much water (15l over a few days!) was extracted from the air in our bedroom (and we don't even have an ensuite!). You have to run it for about a week none stop initially then it runs on an automatic program depending on how much moisture there is in the air.

Thanks. Sent DH around last night and for some reason the vents had been shut so explains the lack of ventilation
