How to kill fruitflies?

I have a problem with fruitflies in my kitchen. How do I get rid of the pests please?

I keep my kitchen tidy and have washed the bin out and sprayed the inside of the liner with Dettol, but they are still buzzing around it!

I am worried that they will spread. Don't know if they are coming up the drains or what. I keep my kitchen tidy and food locked away, I don't think there is any rotting anywhere. Stupid things fly into you and try to get up your nose, yuk!

Would a electronic zapper work? I hope I haven't left it too late.

Cider vinegar in cup with washing up liquid in. Cover in cling film and prick few holes in.

Oh and if you have fruit bowl, don't leave it out. I got rid of fruit or kept it in fridge when we had them. They were about cos of cherry Tree. Not sure which you'd have them this time of year though.

There must be some food somewhere for them to feed on. We generally get them if a banana has been lingering too long, or that sort of thing. including smelly food bin. quickest (grim method) for me is hovering. I wait for them to settle then quickly hoover them up. Gone in 1 evening instead of messing about for ages with little bowls.

Any supermarket will have it. Just a dash of washing up liquid. Little swish so few bubbles.

Hope it works for you. I remember googling it when they were driving me mad. Worked pretty well.

Fruit flies are usually brought in with the fruits you buy. You could try to wash your fruits as soon as you get them to get rid of possible eggs etc. Not sure if it works but it is worth a try, isn't it ?

I hate to say this, but there must be something they are feeding on! Put fruit in the fridge, empty compost peelings every day, and check that there isn't any food that's going off on the floor underneath cupboards etc.

Fruit flies look a lot like fungus gnats, which spend crawly pre-flight stage in soil of houseplants - just an idea for people without suspect fruit. Best cure I know is to keep plants short of water, so gnats die off before flight stage.
