My fridge stinks like rotten veg

My fridge has smelled like rotten veg for about 4 weeks now. It's a 3 year old daewoo American style fridge freezer. I have tried everything I can think of.
I have emptied it completely, audited all contents, dishwasher all the shelves and drawers and door compartments, pulled it out, checked under it, cleaned the drain bit, disinfected it, used one of those crocfridge deodorisers, a plate of coffee grounds. IT STILL STINKS!!!
Coffee grounds helped slightly, turning it off helped slighty. Nothing has worked.
Please help, it's driving me mad
The back is entirely smooth plastic sealed unit so I can't get into it.

Rudy, the smell is much stronger when I open the fridge but I think I can smell it outside too. Though that may be psychological. I feel I am at war with an invisible enemy!

I always keep an eggcup with bicarbonate of soda in mine to keep away any whiffs.

No - no water tank, I even consulted the instruction manual.
I think bicarb is worth a try - several trays full rather than an egg cup though!
I think it's to do with the water evaporating because I can't see any other problem :-(

Is there a wee hole in at the back for excess moisture to soak away? I had this problem once and I had to clean the little channel out by sticking a pipe cleaner down it (not an easy thing to find these days, pipe cleaners! ) to soak up the stale water.

Henbur1702 · 08/02/2015 22:12

Inside the fridge on the back wall is there a small drainage hole? If there is pour some bicarbonate in there or better still get a fridge deodorise spray and spray it in. We had a milk leakage in ours cleaned it all up and a few days later it whiffed turned out some had drained into the hole. I purchased a green coloured fridge cleaning spray and it did the trick!

Clean out the hole where the water drains on the inside of the fridge, you may need lots of cotton buds. Then clean the bit round the back where the water evaporates.

it has

the dish is round the back on top of the motor. The heat from the motor evaporates the water. The dish is probably full of grime and fungus, so clean it out.

MerryDickCrack · 08/02/2015 23:26

I've cleaned the drainage hole, no gunk came out of it. How do I get to the dish? Do I take a screwdriver to the back of the fridge? Will I break it?? Thanks everyone for the help - was really hoping pigletjohn would see this Flowers

usually you can see the dish when you pull the fridge away from the wall, so it is easy to clean out.

If yours is concealed behind a panel, have a look at the instructions.

MerryDickCrack · 21/02/2015 01:03

Well I pulled it out - no tray. It's a smooth sealed unit. Took back off (lower part) with screwdriver, found a dusty motor but no drip tray. Hoovered motor. Top part of back doesn't look remove able. I've read instructions - www.fridge-manual.com/manuals/daewoo/Daewoo_FRS-U20.pdf - no mention of tray.

THE FRIDGE STILL STINKS. 6 weeks now. It's really horrid.

Please help!!

Merry, I had this problem before and the advice I was given wash to unplug and wash EVERYTHING with 50/50 water and baking soda and then 50/50 water and white vinegar (the vinegar acts as a disinfectant and the smell of vinegar just goes away) also I took a baking tray and poured nearly a whole box of baking soda and left it in for 6 hours. Fridge was sparkling and smelled great....... The smell was still there as it turned out the cat had brought me in a wee present and the little vole had obviously run under the fridge and perished Hmm. Still, the fridge was bloody sparkling!! X
