Just started the "baby steps" and I can't be arsed to...

shine my sink. And I'm certainly not going to wear shoes inside, or put post-it notes up around the place, or whatever it is I'm meant to do...

Shall I quit now?

Mind you, I did successfully tidy a "hot spot" in 2 minutes today.

Maybe I will keep trying...

Hmmm. I'm not a FLY expert but from what I understand, I think that the sense of achievement and orderliness that comes from the shiny sink is what creates a corner of calm in the chaos and gives you the impetus to keep going with hotspots and other nonsense so that eventually your house isn't untidy any more and just needs "swishing & swiping"
Think the theory's great, the practice isn't so easy.

QuootieSpookypie · 21/10/2006 22:28

keep going - some days I cant be arsed, but, who cares Join our thread

Skribble · 21/10/2006 22:31

Hi, most of us doing it don't go as far as the lace up shoes, thats more to do with your state of mind, ie being up dressed and presentable, rather than slouching in you PJ's with your hair on end after kicking the kids out to school.

I never did shine my sink as it is plastic and ancient, but making sure it is clear and clean is more the point here.

I didn't put postits up either but I did make notes in a note book which is now e3volved into a Household note book to keep track of things.

So go on give it a go but take some of it with a pinch of salt ( as long as you sweep it up straight away ).

I do need to be more organised with the houswork, and thin it is a great idea to have someone telling me what to do each day.

Is there a thread for the baby steps?

Wallace pmsl I felt like that..I dont wear shoes at home or the post it notes bit..infact I started with gusto for a week and kept the sink clean then gave up

Skribble · 21/10/2006 22:44

There isn't a seperate thread but I used this , ingnored some of the testimonial stuff and skipped a few pointless days. It does help you to get going and establish routines and habits that you need to get it all ticking over.

Flamebat · 21/10/2006 22:50

I stopped the sink... and my life has fallen into chaos

pesha · 21/10/2006 23:05

So can someone tell me how this works. Do i have to register and keep checking emails all day? From what i just read for the first week i dont do any cleaning except shine my sink, is that right? Cos thats cool with me if it is!! Although the dry your sink out, is that with a tea towel? Do you use the same towel you use for dishes? Isnt that a bit unhygienic? But if i had different towels id never remember which was which! Sorry im obsessing too much on this i think and actually probably wouldnt bother anyway ill just wipe my sink with cloth i think if i do this. I need to do something though my house is beyond me at the moment, especially with my morning sickness being so bad im really getting behind

Flamebat · 21/10/2006 23:29

I cleaned with one cloth each night, threw it in the nappy bucket, and dried it with the next day's cloth... I don't like having a cloth hanging round for more than a day anyway.

jasnDISMemBERED · 21/10/2006 23:38

I don't shine the sink very often, but do wash up and put it away, which I didn't before.

I definitely don't do shoes or post it notes.
In fact all I really do is the daily missions, report on the thread what I've done/going to do, and work round the house in my own plan.

I don't get the emails any more either, as I was just deleting them all.

My whole house is miles cleaner than it ever has been though .

Skribble · 21/10/2006 23:44

You don't have to register with the fly site, the e.mails are enough to make even Anthea run for the hills .

Just go straight to Kelly's mission each day and follow the Baby steps on the site too, miss out the stuff you don't like.

I am 4 weeks in now (1 week holiday) and really see the difference, the baby steps help to get a routine going and the missions motivated or at leadt encourage you to go a bit deeper.

Skribble · 21/10/2006 23:45

I must cancel my e.amils. 1 week holiday came back to 144 e.mails argh!!!. I really dn't read them so I wil ditch them.

squatchette · 21/10/2006 23:54

Hi flybabes! we're back
Charlotte better and we got discharged from hosi this afternoon .
House pretty much what i expected after a week away and dp and dd age 2 on thier own .So looks like it's back to basics for me again .On the plus side i've come back to a finished kitchen hurray cooker came ysterday but they haven't put a lead in to connect it so will have to get that sorted asap.
Well after nearly loosing my dd and spending a week in intensive care it puts things in perspective i couldn't care less if house had blown away my babies safe and well and the rest is going to get sorted sooner or later.I've missed the board too so glad to be back.

Thanks Flamebat glad to see you haven't given up either i've often felt that way about FLYing.and Skribble totaly understand what you said about emails i've got over 200 to sift through.

I find posting on here has got me doing so much more than when i just read the emails and i just seem to be checking them less and less as i come on here and know what i should be doing and everyones so encouraging too.

jasnDISMemBERED · 22/10/2006 00:15
