Tips and links thread

And BeCool's copy of Coughles list of ORDER from Thread 2 for everyone:

"ORDER TO DECLUTTER/LOCATE THE JOY*

Clothes folding by rummy
Books
Papers
CDs
DVDs
Skincare products
Make-up
Accessories
Valuables (passports, credit cards, etc.)
Electrical equipment and appliances (digital cameras, electric cords, anything that seems vaguely ‘electric’)
Household equipment (stationery and writing materials, sewing kits, etc.)
Household supplies (expendables like medicine, detergents, tissues, etc.)
Kitchen goods/ food supplies
Other (If you have many items related to a particular interest or hobby, such as ski equipment, then treat these as a single subcategory.)

KonMari stresses that sentimental items should be left till the end. So for example, when you are doing papers, don't include photos of your children, love letters, old school reports etc, leave anything with a sentimental connection for later."

*As discussed in previous threads, your order for decluttering and finding the joy/spark/recognizing may be different to recommendations.

*i mean MUD ROOM cupboard (not mushroom)

Epic typo! BlushGrin

JKSLtd · 21/03/2015 19:50

I wondered if it wAs a new thing. A dark mouldy cupboard for growing your own mushrooms!!

BrandNewIggi · 21/03/2015 19:58

Have been making real inroads with the kitchen today and all H can do is complain about the mess. There is one large item that if I kondo'd it might make all the difference Sad

Stuffofawesome · 21/03/2015 20:04

I have done masses and masses of clearing out in anticipation of putting house on market. Pleased with it so far but much more to do before estate agent comes to take photos in a few days. Pity my house only looks good when I am leaving it. There will be no junk allowed into new house.

defk0ndo · 21/03/2015 21:23

Aw, Iggi, maybe your hubby is just feeling a bit stressed just now.... Hope he comes round soon. Wine for you both help?

defk0ndo · 21/03/2015 21:24

Lol at mushroom cupboard!!!!

defk0ndo · 21/03/2015 21:25

I sorted a load of stuff from the garage including paint, trip to the dump, fab.

HermioneGrangerHair · 21/03/2015 22:25

By jKS's description, I'm not sure we don't have a mushroom cupboard in this house, under the kitchen sink...

Barely keeping up with you all at the moment. Work is mad, and I'm still having technical trouble with finding the thread... Hopefully I'll join in again properly when the next one appears. In the meantime, knickers are staying folded, and I'm thinking very hard about whether to get myself a cordless dyson..!

ShootPeppaPig · 21/03/2015 22:36

Lol. Thinking about it my mum once grew kombucha in the airing cupboard

GatoradeMeBitch · 22/03/2015 00:15

This is really working for me now! This morning I had all my makeup bags on the table - more than I thought I had - and straight away I could see one that I loved. The other seven went in the charity bag.

And I have noticed that in some categories, there is nothing I love. I don't love my towels, I don't love any of my bedlinen. Now I'm using my perfumes up I know I wouldn't repurchase any of them. So I am going to do some serious shopping around before I commit to buying any replacements.

Iqueen · 22/03/2015 12:06

It's working for me, too, Gatorade!

I'm slowly making progress, often 'off piste' - a case of 'I can't stand this any longer' and immediately kondoing whatever it is!

It is less efficient than sticking to the plan, and it does give rise to a collection of random komono, that has to be kept (somewhere!) until I get to the appropriate categories. However, all the the cleared places are staying cleared, as many have noticed. I've become extrememly protective of my cleared spaces! Grin

Tw1nkle · 22/03/2015 13:20

Making slow progress here!
How do you all store your shoes please?
Thanks

Shoe racks from ikea inside coat cupboard for current, sandals etc in clear boxes in a chest, wellies n 'dirty' trainers in garage, dh shoes in garage.

Hmm, that's not that great is it? I thought i had it already kondoed... :-(

defk0ndo · 22/03/2015 20:54

Dirty trainers now kondoed. A perfect example of how sth which shld hv been thrown out was "demoted" to "loungewear" ie only for wearing at home as too tatty for public view. M Kondo has a whole section on this in the book.

I mean, I HAVE perfectly good wellies AND washable crocs for going out into the garden, as well as two other pairs of old trainers which I wear for things like random obstacle courses involving water... Which, in my defence, I have actually done... Unlike Coasteering, which is currently just a dream.

Starface · 22/03/2015 21:07

Hermione - I have m.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_325008037180_-1this handheld hoover. Much cheaper than the Dyson and has been my best investment for life with a toddler. She loves using it too!

Kondoing going well but slowly here. I am mired in komono. But loving reclaiming various drawers, many of which have only one or two items in them.

Starface · 22/03/2015 21:07

Well that link business didn't work

GatoradeMeBitch · 23/03/2015 00:21

What brand of handheld is it Starface? I've been thinking about getting one for the stairs, my vac is so fiddly.

I have taken to keeping a pack of sticky labels in my pocket and stickering anything I don't want to keep. I just stickered both hallway mirrors and the doormat. My friend runs nearly new sales and I keep sending stuff her way, at least one bin bag-full a week. She's concerned I'll end up with an empty house, but the place still looks like a bomb site, so that won't be happening anytime soon!

educatingarti · 23/03/2015 10:28

I actually managed a trip to the tip yesterday! Only 2 large bags rather than a boot-full but all stuff that has been sitting around because I can't put it in the ordinary bin (eg broken computer monitor, broken steam mop etc)!

Feels good to have it all out of the place but not much other progress I'm afraid. Maybe today?!!

Iqueen · 23/03/2015 11:15

Woo hoo! Just won a £10 cheque from Morrisons!

I nearly kondoed their survey last week. Glad I didn't! Grin

Arranged collection of a bundle of Thomas stuff ds2 doesn't play with anymore. He still loves thomas but just one gauge. These are big hunky plastic ones.
Being collected tomorrow.

Otherwise nothing doing. Swimming and recovering!

ShootPeppaPig · 23/03/2015 18:43

My new dyson arrived today. Does take some getting used to! Have kondo'd plenty of dust though Grin

I now have a mountain of stuff to sell and another mountain to go to the charity shop by the front door Confused planning to finish the kitchen Kondo tonight if I can do its already for another cab to the charity shop tomorrow

Starface · 23/03/2015 19:07

Mine is a vax. £25. Fantastic.

HermioneGrangerHair · 23/03/2015 19:19

Thanks Starface... I'll broaden my horizons and give it some more thought. The price of the Dyson has definitely slowed me down, but before I buy anything at all, I want to be sure I'm getting it right. I'm not liberating all this space just fill it with stuff I find disappointing!

Gatorade - you should see our towels! Hmm DH and I had a fall-out when he finally bought some new hand towels (why is that usually my job???), then a few weeks later started using the new ones to take to the gym. Why the hell didn't he take the old ones? Because he took the ones he bought, so I have no reason to complain! Angry one of these days, I'll put everything I've ever bought for the house out of action, and see how he manages without any saucepans, or plates, or cutlery, or bedclothes, or curtains, or chairs... Anyway, that was quite a digression. The point is, our towels are miserable. One of these days I'll buy some nice new ones and hide them from DH.
