Reed diffusers - tell me all!

Are they worth it?
Does the price reflect quality/value or does branding/packaging play a part?
Can you use different scents in different rooms - or stick to one?

I'm rejuvenating our home after 3 years of 60 hour weeks (no time for anything but a quick whip round with the vacuum) - so need a complete beginners guide!

Neal's Yard do a lovely one called Balancing.
White Company Seychelles is gorgeous.

Both last ages

I got a cheap Airwick one just before Xmas to put in our cloakroom and it still smells gorgeous every time you go in, but wonder if it's more concentrated in a smaller room, rather than the make. In a lounge the smell has to travel more!

Which are the ones which arent synthetic at all? Neom or is that a bit synthetic? Are there others? DH is really intolerant of artificial air fresheners so I am limited to essential oils.

Neom are the essential oil ones.

They have a sale twice a year and you will always find a few in the John Lewis sale eg I bought 3 at 17.50 each instead of 35. Neom themselves frequently run offers so worth signing up to their newsletter.

I start sneezing/throat tightening with ones including any hint of 3 commonly used additives including linool (sp? ) but I have had no problems with Neom. when I rang them to explain the problem, they sent my tiny sample phials to see what worked & I rewarded them with hard cash & deep loyalty Smile Grin but I don't work for them!

If your diffuser stops smelling & it's not because you have become immune, chances are your reeds are saturated & need replacing. This does happen after a pot or two...& reeds are very cheap on amazon/eBay & the like.

I'm not loaded, they are expensive & I do stock up at sale time. I cannot tolerate other products so I use this or nothingSmile depending on other bills!

Are the reeds not just the same as those you buy for kebab skewers like those for BBQ? If so then could the cheapest way to buy the Neom ones (other than in the sale) be to buy the refills and use them with these?

Yes it is true the it depends on the size of room.

St Eval, Bay and Rosemary is just lovely and lasts too. £27 and £8 for the refill.
It lasts ages.
Neom are also great but are about ten quid more and don't last quite as long as the St Eval.

Be v careful about what you stand them on. I had one on painted wood and didn't realised it got knocked and splashed. It stripped the paint entirely off! Better than paint stripper! I always keep on large glass plate now and on les nice furniture!

Champnes ones last ages.

I am very particular about fragrancing. I hate anything synthetic smelling. I use White Company in wild mint & True Grace. I have little ceramic dishes under them to prevent any little splashes damaging surfaces. I bought them from The White Company.

Another vote for Neom.

Have a go at making your own candles,Ive done this for a few years because I couldn't justify how much I was spending on Yankees, you can then be in control of what you put in your candles and they smell so much better. There are loads of website on the net to show you how,but I must warn you ,it gets completely addictive.I now have four drawers full(has been more pre Xmas)

I just adore NEOM reed diffusers but at £38 they are priced out of most peoples reach. A luxury nobody on normal income can afford, in fact its half a weeks food budget. I think the company needs to rethink their prices if they wish to reach everyday people. Maybe somebody out there knows where they can be bought more cheaply.

I agree. I couldn't justify spending 38 pounds on a reed diffuser, that's half of my weekly food budget. I know you get what you pay for but even so. I could spend maybe a tenner tops but 38 pound no way. It's a shame because I really do like them. I have one that was a gift in my loo downstairs and it smells lovely

I tend to get whatever is on offer.

I've got Beefayre watermint and rosemary in the kitchen/diner at the moment and I like it. And something orangish in the loo (small room, poor air circulation) which I don't (will get round to changing it eventually).

John Lewis etc have neom seasonal diffusers & candles at half price in new year & summer sales. But they are still exorbitant.

Zara home ones are fab, I bought ours for about £15 6 months ago and it's still going strong. Ginger lily is my favourite.

Another vote for Zara Home - they last for months and months and all the fragrances are wonderful - I like Green Herb. Not too expensive either.
