How to go about changing oven.

I have a single fitted gas oven on the wall which I want to replace.

My question is , can I buy any oven to replace it? Do they come in standard sizes or will I have to stick to the same manufacturer?

Also I would really like an electric oven, can I do this even though my current one is gas?

Sorry if this all sounds really obvious!

Thanks!

Generally the width will be the same, 600mm wide. The height is where you might see a difference and might need to adjust you walk unit to suit.

You gas might need closed off (or it might have a valve anyway), you will need an electrician to put in a supply with a heavier cable suitable for an oven if you don't have one already.

It is preferable to have a dedicated electrical circuit for an oven, but if it is a single oven, with no separate grill and no electric hob, designed for the UK market, it may be rated below 13Amps and capable of being used with a plug and socket. Do not use a double socket or an extension lead. You will have to look at the specification carefully. Many European ovens need a 16A supply.

Double ovens, and electric cookers, must always be connected to a dedicated circuit.
