What is reasonable for a cleaner to do in 2 hours?

We have a cleaner starting today. I live in a 4 bed detached house. What is reasonable to ask her to do in 2 hours? I definitely would like the bathrooms cleaned and the floors mopped and the kitchen floor and hall mopped- can.i ask her to hoover through as well or is that too much?

No that seems reasonable. Our cleaner comes for 2 hrs, like you we have 4 bed. She cleans kitchen and mops kitchen floor. Hoovers all rooms and cleans bathrooms.
As she's only there for 2 hours, not every surface is dusted and so forth, also we only use two of the bedrooms on a regular basis which makes it a bit easier.

Does she have to wade through toys, move tons of stuff to clean and use an ancient old hoover with a short lead!

If she doesn't then she can easily do that in 2 hours.

We have a 5 bed but I only get her to do the guest room every so often. Ours gives the bathroom a really good clean and downstairs toilet. Wipes round the kitchen and utility. Dusts all over including all mirrors in bathroom, living room and bedrooms.

She hoovers through the whole house and cleans all the wooden floors and tiles downstairs. She does something extra when she can like clean windows and she doesn't stop whilst she is here.

I do get everywhere clear for her to clean so toys off floor, bedroom clear, bath toys away, cat food up as surprising how long that can take.

My cleaners came from a small company and so it was not always the same person. The company suggested a list in priority order then cleaner would start at the top, ticking off as she went, and work down until the end of her time. It was helpful as I knew exactly what she had done and what needed to be highlighted next time.

We will only book two hour cleans for a small home with hardly any traffic however we are a particularly detailed service, we will do 'part cleans' I would just pick some rooms that are your priority and have the complete service in those rooms rathe than bits and bobs all over the house - I think that will only lead to dissatisfaction of both parties in the end!

Get certain rooms done properly and you will really feel the benefit and everyone will be clear - no confusion as to how far they should go!

BallsforEarrings · 21/01/2015 10:13

Oh yes - don't forget to prepare the areas she will be cleaning, we will only book cleans within the terms that clients have the house ready for them to clean, ie not using rooms during service, house picked up no health and safety hazards etc.

Yes I would do a list. Say kitchen and bathrooms cleaned fully and all house hoovered. Then add what you would like done if time allows

Thankyou, I found this advice really helpful Smile

Hi It is a good idea to make a list of items that need cleaning for each room, i e Kitchen - sink/hob top/outside fridge/work surfaces/cupboard handles/front cupboards/microwave/dishwasher/washing machine/hoover floor/mop floor/dust skirting/wipe door handles. Although the list is long some items only take a short time and are therefore quickly done. Allow your cleaner time to get used to the layout of your house and adopt a system of cleaning. Think about changing the order the rooms are cleaned each week - say upstairs some rooms one week, downstairs the other week, according to how the rooms are used. This works well if you only have a short time for your cleaner to be there.

What's the relevance of your house being detached? 2 hours is fine for all surfaces and floors (either vacuuming or mopping). Plus bathroom fittings. If we go away for 2 weeks he still comes in both weeks and does extras (for example the insides of the windows).
