Is there really such a thing as a quiet boil kettle?

If so, I would love to know and would pay through the nose to own it.

Lots of kettles 'say' they are quiet boil but in my experience they are always lying.

Sneaky Kettles.

there are a couple of Russell Hobbs kettles that are said to be unusually quiet.

The brushed stainless is called Buckingham, and the polished one Windermere

Prices range from £30 to £40. Argos sell it at £44

It was a best buy in Which about a month ago so most retailers have been sold out since then. "Which" say of the Buckingham "This is a remarkably quiet kettle that's one of the best we've tested in years."

Thank you!

I just bought a Russell Hobbs one yesterday and yes I can say it's quieter than the previous kettle when it boils.

I got a Bosch recently, and noticed it was significantly quieter than any kettle I've come across. Though not sure if it's your quite though.

if you live in a hard water area, kettles get noisier as they get more scaley.

Don't buy a Breville. I'm surprised at how noisy a kettle can be!

d0nkeyk0ng · 05/01/2015 19:13

Thanks for the tips folks, very helpful. Yes I am in a hard water area so am sure that's part of the problem, although I do try to descale fairly often (but maybe not enough). Perhaps a water softener is what I really need!

hard water + kettle + water softener = bright kettle

I was in tesco today and they had the Buckingham kettle as a special buy at £15.00.

BoffinMum · 08/01/2015 21:44

How about an instant water boiler?

Sidge · 08/01/2015 21:52

I've just got a new kettle - a Dualit one. It wasn't cheap but I used Nectar points which brought the price down.

It's the fastest quietest kettle I've ever had! Would totally recommend it.

I bought a Bosch kettle recently which is pretty quiet compared to any previous ones. I specifically did not want a metal kettle ever again.

It also comes in black and cream.

We have got rid of the funny taste in our Buckingham kettle . For anyone reading this with the same problem the solution was filling it half full witb 2 tsp bicarb (it nearly shot out of the kettle) then left it overnight.

Emptied out, fresh water and re boiled and job done.

It is indeed lovely and quiet and boiled fast. We've got one of those water heater things snd don't get on with it ad feel the water isn't hot enough for tea.
