Dyson DC59

I was given a bit of money for Christmas, and thinking of putting it towards one of these. We vacuum about once a week, but it could do with more... Will a lightweight vacuum cleaner inspire me to get dust-free, or is it just more stuff to fill up the house?

I have one. It's fantastic and very easy to use, being so lightweight.
It's a 3 hour charge for 20 minutes of vacuuming, but that's ok. You can keep it on a wall, plugged in. Good for stairs. I still vacuum properly every now and then, but inbetweentimes use the DC59. Love it!

I am more inclined to Hoover with this as you grab and go! Also lots of visitors stayed over christmas and wanted to try it, extra bonus!

Thanks for this... I've also wondered whether one of these would help me fit in a quick blast while the bath's running or whatever. I've just joined the Marie Kondo thread, and I think I need to focus on that for now... Cleaning around the mess seems a losing battle at the moment, and it might take a few months to save my pennies!

I love mine, great if you have a dog and I do a lot more than I used to as not as tiring as lugging my big dyson around

Came on here to get advice on vacuums (specifically dyson: upright vs cylinder?) and saw this - hadn't considered cordless before! Just wondering, does it work as main vacuum or is it necessary to have a more powerful cleaner for weekly use?
In context: 2 bedroom flat and a newly crawling 7.5 month old. Not completely relevant but I'm a FTM and not quite juggling things the most efficiently at the moment (but trying!) so looking for the easiest option. Mainly laminated flooring throughout with couple of newish rugs (still shredding a little). Currently I have a 2 year old Russel Hobbs cyclone which is rubbish and doesn't pick up things well, esp on rugs where I'd like baby to spend most of his time.
Chose dyson for reliability.
Was considering cylinder as thought would be easier to drag around home quickly/do skirting etc (trying to Kondo our clutter slowly too) but now think I could get used to upright cleaner, likely would be more powerful and easier to store? Help please

I bought myself one for Christmas after putting my back out dragging my Dyson upstairs to clean behind DS' cabin bed.
I my cleaner only hovers once a week normally but I do it much more often now I've got this as it's so easy.

I only use my old heavy dyson when the dc59 head is blocked and I haven't cleaned it out yet. I mostly have hard floors.

On carpets you need a more powerful hoover than a cordless. We have a black rug so i can see how much dust and hair is left behind. Both is great of course so you can do a "deep hoover" every week or two - if you can only get one i would make it a proper one
