bugs on line dried clothes

For the most part I'm trying to either dry our clothes on the racks inside, or out on the line when it's not raining. The real trouble with the outside bit is that when the stuff comes in it's usually covered in these tiny little biting flies/insects (??) and if you don't tumble to kill them off you are then in turn covered in bites! Does anyone have a similar problem? Is there a natural or better way of drying clothes outside that I am just totally unaware of? BTW, we are in Northern Scotland if that makes a difference... so plenty of windy days for drying clothes out!

im in scotland too and i dont have problems with beasties on my clothes! maybe the occasional midgie but i give my clothes a good shake when i take them off the line

try spraying the line with flyspray and leave it a day or 2?

Thanks nailpolish. I've tried spraying the line with spray, but it doesn't seem to do much. It's not a few bugs... let's say a bedsheet... there will be about 50-100 of these little critters on it. They're quite thick in the air and when I ask around as to what they are I'm told they're just 'wee flies'. We're in the middle of loads of farms, so perhaps could be from all the manure spread about?

is it just at this time of year?

i dont think there is much you can do about it im afraid

MommyUpNorth · 12/10/2006 09:57

Yes probably. I remember it for the last few years and it starts in about June/July and then lasts right though to the end of Oct/early November... so the best time to get the whites white outside!

maybe you could try a few

i found it

MommyUpNorth · 12/10/2006 10:08

Yes, saw it thanks! And read with interest. I've tried the jars now and they don't seem to attract very much, but they are dying down a bit, so maybe will start on a bigger scale earlier next year!
