ok so far I have got the kids up and dressed and 2 of them off to school, taken the sheets off my bed and put them in the wash, put the dishes in the sink with hot water on them (porridge for breakfast-needs a bit of a soak!) tidied up by the front door of all the shoes, coats, buggy etc, folded one lot of washing out of the tumbler and tidied up one bedroom (the smallest!!)

Still to do:
1.Wash, dry and put away the dishes
2.Dry and iron my bed linen
3.Take the linen off the kids bed and wash dry and iron it
4.Clean the bathroom
5.Clean the toilet room
6.Clean the kitchen worktops
7.Mop the kitchen, bathroom and toilet floors
8.Hoover upstairs
9.Polish upstairs
10.Hoover downstairs
11.Polish downstairs
12.Put other washing away
13.Hoover the stairs
14.SHOULD do a workout but daresay I won't have time!!

I need to get all this done before 2.30!

AAARRRRGGGGHHH!!

Am similarly amazed at people's day consisting of cleaning. I did some laundry and stuff along the way but I don't put it on my list, and I don't spend all day on it

Judy1234 · 11/10/2006 20:09

But people choose it as a life choice to be a house wife who does the cleaning rather than work and I can't understand why they make that choice, why they enjoy the bulk of their day being engaged in domestic cleaning services.

PinkTulips · 11/10/2006 20:53

i should point out with regards to my list.... that was the first time upstairs got cleaned since i got the dyson a month and a half ago ..... and beofre that was when i was still pregnant and nesting. i do a mad cleaning binge about once a month and let it all pile up in the meantime.

only cleaning i do on a daily basis is washing, dishes and sweeping downstairs.

don't think it's fair to be all presumptious and condecending with your 'why would anyone want to do it?'. i don't 'want' to do it, i f*#king detest doing it, but dp sure as hell isn't going to so unless i want to wait til it gets really bad and give kim and aggie a ring it has to be done!

and i like nmaking lists and preferably sharing them as it gives me the kick up the bum i need to actaullyget stuff done.

PinkTulips · 11/10/2006 20:55

omg, just read your last post 'cleaning rather than work'!? ever scrubbed a bath woman..... it's fucking work, i'd rather be in an office sitting on my bum any day of the week! i'm at home at the minute as i've just had a bay but fair deuce to the women who give all their time and energy to their family...... how very dare you say its not work?!

Xenia, I think that there are many, many, many 'real work jobs' () that are hardly exciting and yet people legitimately 'choose' to do those...

On balance, I think most of us would like a life where the boring bits were outweighed by the fun bits but unfortunately there are rather too many boring bits to contend with sometimes!

Excuse me, washing up beckons...

PinkTulips · 11/10/2006 23:37

well i scrub with the green side of the sponge to get off the soap scum and make sure its done properly. find just spraying and rinsing doesn't do much.

anywho..... how sad is to to be discussing whether or not i'm clinically insane to scrub a bath at 20 to 12 at night.

my bed beckons!

AnAngelWithin · 12/10/2006 09:41

well its took me til 10.30 last night but I got everything done! so today, I am having a day doing what I want to do after I have just had a quick tidy up as that is all that's needed today! woohoo!!

i have been doing the 5 minutes in each room and 24 things to charity shop and although still loads of ironing will shine sink tonight.

Judy1234 · 15/10/2006 22:00

It's very hard workj. It's so hard and awful and dull I can't imagine anyone choosing it. That's what puzzles me but I suppose if you're deciding between that and a factory production line you just about might prefer the house cleaning option. But even thre you get the talking to colleagues, works dos, chatting, getting away from the children for a bit (which I know some people cannot bear to do so may be that's the difference with me - I never wanted to be with them all day for long periods) and if you really cannot bear to be away from them then you just accept the housecleaning as the nasty part of the job because it gives you the chance to be the 24/7 parent.

Walnutshell · 17/10/2006 20:36

Yeah, actually it can be hard and awful and dull and sometimes being at work (P-T) is a 'break' although also stressful in itself (lots of responsibility there too).
I reckon the whole stay-at-home thing would make sense if we lived in closer communities with everyday interaction a natural part of life - how radical?! Shame that we have to find that level of interaction at work really because then someone else is looking after your kids - AS A JOB! Oh, it's crazy, it's all money money money. Sigh.
