I'm looking after a very fluffy black cat for a year and struggle with getting his fur off the beige carpets. I bought a new hoover with a pet nozzle but it's a bit crap. Any ideas? Bloody cat.

Put rubber gloves on and run your hands over the carpet to gather the hair up. The hair will come off.

But in the longer term, you need a better vacuum cleaner.

Scraping with a rubber soled shoe works well too. Also, if you shave cat now then it will all have grown back by next year... Wink

Get a good grooming comb (not a brush) and groom him every day. Some people swear by a Furminator but I've never used one - a comb does wonders for my super furry cat.

You can get rubber brushes which are good at removing pet hairs from the carpet.

Second rubber gloves and firmly stroke the carpet. The amount it brings up is shocking. In our old house, our cats used to like sleeping on the stairs (weirdos) and I was forever rubber gloving the stairs. It's quite therapeutic though!

Good for sofas/ chairs too.

Get a patterned rug to hide the carpet and hairs. We have a very ancient Persian one that does the trick (the rug is Persian, not the cat).

Miele cat and dog vacuum cleaner! The cats nads...

My Miele cat and dog vacuum doesn't like cat hairs. He's picky.

Cylinder vacuums with pet brushes are next to useless in my experience. If you have pets and carpets, get an upright

this is great, thanks. I will purchase some rubber gloves!
