New Kitchen - best extractor fan/cooker hood?

What is the best mid range chimney cooker hood, in your experience, in terms of a) effectiveness of removing grease etc b) noise levels c) how they look and d) cost?

I want to spend between £100-200. Will go over budget a little for The Best Ever cooker hood. If I can't find something amazing, I'll go for a plain ish square Bosch one for £309 or something with £100 cash back, but want to see if there are other little known but really good brands out there.

(please don't hotpoint or indeshit!)

and yes, I know it should go in products section but really i figured it was tenuously 'housekeeping' due to the cleanliness aspect, and this topic gets more traffic Grin

We were going to buy a Neff one and the man in the shop downsold me a generic type brand one for half the price of the Neff one. Think it was something like CDC.

cece · 15/11/2014 21:45

Sorry it is CDA - ours is like this

PavlovtheCat · 15/11/2014 21:58

oh, CDA is the brand the kitchen shop guy told us to use for microwave, said they were good, simple and efficient. That's just the kind of thing I am looking for. Thank you Smile

the most important thing is that it vents through the wall, and does not recycle the hot steamy air round the kitchen.

A multispeed one is handy, as you can leave it running quietly on low speed without people refusing to turn it on.

EarSlaps · 16/11/2014 21:21

We have this but with clear glass, not black. Judging by the amount of grease it collects, it does a bloody good job.

Best things IMO are the clean air function (runs on low every hour for 15 minutes, great when the slow cooker is on) and run on timer (press it and it will switch off after 15 minutes).

Our kitchen shop were otherwise all Neff and AEG but they really rated CDA.

Btw, reason we went for angled like that is so tall DH didn't keep bumping his head when stirring things on the hob Grin.

On level 1 it's really nice and quiet but it's really powerful on the top levels.

PigletJohn · 16/11/2014 22:02

I like the hood to be mounted a few inches higher than the top of the tallest user's head, to avoid bumping.

It's also good to get one wider than your hob, to catch any sideways drift. Recently I couldn't find a 1000mm one, 900 had to do.

PavlovtheCat · 17/11/2014 22:16

piglet, oh thats worth knowing about hob size. wall cupboards are a little out from the hob each side, so bigger is possible.

kitchen fitter/builder has come in today, said there is not much difference, in his experience between CDA, Bosch and say Ikea cooker hoods.

However, the decibels are different on some. Is there much difference between 71bd(a) and 58db(a)? It's a small kitchen with kitchen table in, so low noise is best. Sounds like it might be quite a difference?

I have low ceilings and a tall husband Grin.

My cda one is nice and quiet.
