Kenwood mixer 1/2 price at currys... Any good

Currys are advertising on TV 1/2 price mixers at £199, and seeing as my cheap one (not Kenwood) has died wondering if this is decent.

There is a 400w and a 1000watt version, would like the 1000 as Dh makes a lot of bread & pasta, which is quite heavy dough.

I have a feeling that £400 would have been overpriced and £200 is about right, but this is based on nothing except my suspicious nature.

A number of the Kenwood's are "Which" best buys. We have a Chef with a heap of never used accessories. Which model are you looking at?

Is it a prospero? They were Very Much the Thing on here a while ago.

Mine was only about 140 on line.

Hmm, gets decent reviews , it's £199 at currys, haven't found it any cheaper so may be Xmas present for DH.

Premier Chef came out very well on Which test, typical price £360. Good at whisking, mixing and kneading.

They said attaching the blender attachment and splash guard is difficult if you have poor dexterity. My Chef does not have the splash guard and tends to throw out flour dust if making a full load of Crumble which has no wet ingredients.

I imagine (but have not checked) that you can fit the numerous Chef attachments if you wish.

On past experience, if you are aged 20, a chef may wear out before you do. If you are a more mature lady, leave it to your eldest in your will.

Have a look on John Lewis, where it is £420 and you can see some of the accessories.

They might not price match if the Currys' is a different colour or version (often happens) but worth a try as J L service and guarantee is much better.

Get the 1000w, it counts with Kenwood (not so much KitchenAid as they work differently)

I have the 900w Propspero and I can imagine anything less coping with a dough or fruit cake mix. If it didn't have sticky feet my poor little Propspero would walk across the kitchen with some breads thankfully that won't be an issue with The Chef.

My grandmother had her Kentwood chef for 40 years, they last ages.

If its the Premier Chef 510 I can recommend it. My DH bought me this as a gift last year.

I have a Kenwood (albeit the major) and they are very good and last ages. The great thing about them is you can buy spare parts easily, so really it should last a lifetime. Lakeland have the 1000w model for £249, and it has lots of attachments, which I can't tell if the Currys' one has. Might be worth checking as the splash guard is really useful, stops crumbs going everywhere, and also, once you've kneeded your dough, you can leave it to rise without having to decant it into another bowl, cover with cling film etc.
