v pooey washable nappies

Our washable nappies (Totsbots bamboo) occasionally get a real blasting from my daughter. Since they are elasticated I cannot soak them and even when I rinse them first they still come out stained! Hardly pleasant - can anyone recommend anything to help?

If you can find a sunny day, sunlight will bleach out the stains (at least it does from regular Tots). It seems too good to be true but does really work -- a couple of hours of sun cleaned up DS's most stained Tots.

You can soak them, just not with anything too corrosive - water and bicarb should be fine. Or try just pouring a litre of water over each nappy as it goes in the bucket. You'll need a mesh bucket liner if you want to start soaking though.
Try the following:
Leave nappies out on the line for a couple of days, rain and shine, then wash again.
Buy a one-off descaling treatment for your machine and start using Calgon or white vinegar in your nappy washes - softer water gets the most out your detergent.
If it's a washer/dryer clean the filter regularly.

Ditto lemonaid - line drying bleaches our TotsBots Bamboozles no probs.

You don't say what kind of detergent you're using - I mainly use Persil Bio or occasionally own brand bio(have never had the need to try non-bios as neither of my two have had any skin problems!) I don't soak the nappies before washing but my mum always used to pre-soak terries in a weak solution of the bio detergent and they were always spotless!
