TV has lost its signal

I put the tv on tonight after being away for a few days, and there is no signal. Do you think the antenna has blown off or something? What do I do?

I know it's not the end of the world, but I am a lone parent and anything like that going wrong gets me down, as it's all down to me to get it fixed...

Okay - is it a conventional aerial on the roof, often fixed to the chimney stack if there is one? If so, can you see it and has it moved at all? Is the cable attached to the aerial or has it come away?

Is the aerial cable inside plugged into the back of the TV or digibox?

If the aerial cable runs from the roof down to where it comes into the room where the TV is, has it been damaged anywhere?

Our NDN once cut through our pretty newly fitted aerial cable when he cut the hedge between our gardens. It is not difficult to fix with a connector and some electrical tape to protect it.

Thanks wowfudge. There is a cable that hangs down the back of the house (old Victorian terrace) and all that looks ok, so I suspect something has gone wrong at the top - will have to stand outside in the morning to see what's going on...

Is it an old telly?
This happened to me. I'd turned it off at the wall and it never turned on again Confused
A capacitor or something didn't like being turned off. Couldn't get the back off it to fix it. Ended up buying a new tv.
Sorry to bring our bad news.
Hope it's the aerial which is fixable

Does a retune find anything, or nothing at all?

Freeview channels get changed, it could simply be a change and a retune will fix it. Or you may find that there is some connection but it is weak, so you get the strong channels but not the others.

Is there any kind of aerial booster? May be in the loft. Maybe it is not working for some reason.

If you can't see any kind of damage/problem in daylight, check the plug on the TV and change the fuse. If you have an extension cable the TV is plugged into, check that too.

If there's still no picture, see if you can borrow a TV and check if that works. It's a process of elimination until you find out what isn't working.
