if you don't use a toilet brush, what on earth do you clean loo with?

I hate toilet brushes (vom!) and my toddler loves them which creates new problems!
So. want to bin them forever BUT whether due to toilet design, human anatomy, diet, or something else, I can't see how I'd remove the regular (pardon the pun!) and unsightly 'occurrences' from the loo bowl. Toilet cleaner or bleach alone don't work. I need a brush or similar. Help! Thanks!

I put bleach & water into the toilet brush container, so that it's disinfected when it goes back in. Then empty the contents of the toilet brush holder into the toilet next time.

Doesn't solve the problem of having toddlers around, but at least your brush is germ-free all the time.

'Loo cleaners' are a bit of a con.
Like many cleaning products.

You need 2 products at most- thick bleach and a limescale remover. Many 'loo cleaners' have a limescale remover in them but they are prob much more expensive than a cheaper product that just removes limescale.

Yes, but loo cleaners smell a hell of a lot nicer than bleach. I can't be in a house that has been bleached, it makes me feel physically sick.

Not even lemon bleach? :)

The smell isn't that bad if you leave the lid down and close the door. I t only takes about 30 mins most to remove the stubbonnest poo!

Pinkfrocks - I'm one of those freaks who use pine toilet cleaner and a loo brush. I'm not bothered by my loo brush in the least little bit. It doesn't have poo clinging to it and it sits quietly and inoffensively in a corner, not infecting anyone or besmirching anything.

Infact, I would go so far as to say I love my loo brush because it means I don't need to use bleach, I don't need to use rubber gloves and an old cloth which I then throw away each time, so it eases my conscience wrt the environment. I think I've had the current one at least a year!!

We're all still alive Grin.

Ok I've been flamed for this before and accused of single handily causing global warming but here goes it...I buy really cheap ones from supermarkets for something like 20p I use them once then they go straight outside into the bin.
I do this during my weekly deep clean, during normal cleaning I just use bleach.

Mintyy · 01/11/2014 18:16

I won't say what I want to say LittleBairn.

LittleBairn · 01/11/2014 18:18

Mintyy its alright I know I'm evil and mad. Grin seriously I'm phobic over loo brushes I can't help it!

Buttercup27 · 01/11/2014 18:48

I can't see the problem with loo brushes as long as they are cleaned really well and often. I'd much rather use a brush than clean someone else's poo with loo roll and gloves.

I use these cheap magic erasers www.amazon.co.uk/Estone-Sponge-Cleaner-Cleansing-Kitchen/dp/B00LM2NULG/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1414925427&sr=8-12&keywords=magic+eraser

I start with the sink, then bath, tiles, skirtings etc and then finish off with the toilet from top the bottom, throw away after use. They work out at 8p each with a squirt of flash or detox spray and get the bathroom really sparkling.

Not much revolts me more than loo brushes in public loos- I mean who wants to see and smell other people's poo on the brush?
I think you're kidding yourself if you think that a loo brush is clean. Unless it's been really carefully washed in bleach and allowed to dry then it won't be clean at all.

I buy those little washing up sponges- they have a green slightly rough side to one of them and a sponge to the other- and I think a pack of 8 worked out at 5p a sponge. As and when bleach alone doesn't work or a few good flushes then I'll use a sponge and throw away but that's very rarely!
