Best way to clean hard floors

I have seen people mention steam mops on here. Are they any good and do they disinfect? I have a crawler and cats that like to bring in half eaten mice so need a way to keep the floors disinfected easily. We have some laminate that can't get a lot of water on it else it bubbles and also stone floor. At the moment I am on my hands and knees with detail wipes. Please help me!

Also have cats and a crawler got hard floors all downstairs, I wouldn't be without my steam mop, mine has adjustable steam for on the laminate floors but although it says it kills germs due to high temp I still squirt a bit of disinfectant on the floors before, especially if the cats bring presents home Smile

I use a steam mop on my laminate kitchen floor and it hasn't suffered at all. Just go easy on the steam and don't saturate the floor.

Be wary of steaming your laminate, my neighbour ruined hers and it had to be replaced. I know they are not recommended for Amtico or Karndean type flooring either.
They are great for tiled or stone floors though.

Thank you! Would anyone recommend their steam mop? There are some half price on amazon for £30 that seem reasonable. I'm really excited about this purchase! Smile

Mine is OK, but if I had known what a faff it was I wouldn't have bothered buying one.

What do you mean? I was imagining you just add some water, plug it in, wait for it to heat and then glide away...

You can't use any old water. You need de-ionised water. My floors that need mopping aren't that big and it is just as easy to get down on my knees to wash the floor. A steam mop needs a bit of energy to push around and get ingrained marks off the floor.

We have a morphy Richards one that the middle pops out and you can use it as a steam cleaner as well as a mop.

I use the water collected in my condensing tumble dryer passed through a sieve with a bit of muslin in it instead of de-ionised water. I also use this in the iron to prevent a build up of limescale.

We use ours on the laminate through out our downstairs and so long as you don't leave it steaming in one place for ages it should be fine.

I have a Karcher (thanks to the MN product test Grin)
I use normal water, there's nothing in the instructions otherwise?
Great for cleaning tiles and grout and oven door, cooker hood.
