How to get rid mould on walls?

Hello, we're moving out of our rented place and as moved boxes that have been sitting on the corner of the room for 3 years (!) I discovered a sort of mould patch. I'm guessing it's damp related as it smells a bit musty in the room. It's not proper green mould it's more like a large circle of mottled patches that look almost that grease stains i.e, no colour as such more of a glisten. The walls is beige and the paint is quite cheap so it rubs off.

I need to fix it or the landlord will go ballistic!

Any thoughts?

so they arent black patches? I would try wiping down with a bleach/water solution and then re-paint.

It might just be condensation.

Open the windows and move furniture or boxes away from the walls to allow fresh air to circulate.

If you need to repaint, do the entire wall from corner to corner. Observe if it is matt or silk. If the wall had been recently plastered and the paint is not durable, it may be Dulux Trade Supermatt which is a special non-vinyl porous paint that enables the wet plaster to dry out through it. It makes the wall look decent and can easily be painted over after it is thoroughly dry, but it is not hard-wearing. It is available in numerous colours to order, but the two cheapest are PBW and Magnolia. DIY sheds and paint merchants stock it.

Thanks, no black patches, it just looks a bit sweaty...

I don't dare repaint in case it might be the wrong paint but your analysis of the paint seems to fit - I may get a sample pot to see. Eeeeek!

it is not a matter of the landlord 'going ballistic'. It is a matter of agreed deduction from the deposit which must be protected by law.

assuming it hasn't been painted in 3 years, the deduction will take wear and tear into account and will be quite low.

if I was your landlord I'd prefer the £50 or so I'd get to help me buy the paint. Then I would repaint fully once the place is empty and dry.

also if it is damp, it is the landlord's problem anyway.

I've aired the place and wiped the wall with warm water and a drop of bleach and it seems to have worked quite well. Thanks! Interestingly my cloth was greenish from wiping the wall although it didn't look green on the wall.

I agree about the landlord and the paint but he is like no other landlord, I don't even want to spend energy writing about him, it wouldn't be worth it!

Detox mould remover. Works a treat.
