Hello there, but of a b

Phone had a mind of its own there!

Was gonna say this is a bit of a boring one so I apologise in advance
My washing machine is not taking the softener from the drawer - it takes the washing detergent fine, but seems to fill the softener drawer with water and just leave it all there!

I have cleaned washing machine, taken drawer out, cleaned it and cleaned inside with my steam cleaner. No visible blockages at all!

Any ideas anyone? Driving me crazy!!

I can't help, but mine sometimes does the same. I used to use a laundry freshener in the softener compartment but it stopped going into the machine.

I've never used softener, the compartment isn't blocked and it's clean.

Hope someone else comes along soon with some idea! Grin

Check the roof of the compartment above the drawer and behind. Ours was clogged and needed a really good clean.

Thanks for responses - I've tried cleaning the drawer chamber - it's all clean apart from the very very back where it goes down into the machine cos I just can't reach that far!!! The rest of it is now spotless!!!

I use bleach spray and an old toothbrush on the roof bit as the little holes can get blocked. I'd give it another going over and then try again.

That happened to my old machine, had a man out because it was quite new. He said water pressure wan't high enough to send it through. I was quite glad when the machine gave up the ghost after a few years it seemed wasteful to get a new one because of such a small thing but I like lovely smelling softeners.

AnnaFiveTowns · 23/10/2014 05:05

Mine did this. I pulled out the drawer and got a wire brush/ goldilocks thing and scrubbed the roof of the inside of the drawer, right at the back, and it was fine after. The hole there gets clogged with gunk.

I had this problem, turned out that concentrated softener was too thick for my machine to move it into the system. I found that when I diluted the softener half and half with water the machine started taking it up just fine; you could try that?

imtheonlyone · 23/10/2014 09:43

Thanks, I will try cleaning it again - a toothbrush is a great idea.

Definitely try loosening the softener with some water. I usually use Aldi's "naturals" softener but recently bought a large bottle of Tesco own brand as it was on offer. I noticed it was very very thick. Then I noticed that the machine didn't seem to be taking it in, exactly as you describe. I am thinning it with some water and will go back to the Aldi one when the ridiculously big bottle runs out

rockinghorseShit · 23/10/2014 16:12

mine is the same, I've been putting the softner in the same slot as the detergent, but I will have to give it a good clean

imtheonlyone · 23/10/2014 20:09

It seems to be doing the same whether it's concentrated stuff or normal. And it fills the tray with water during the cycle so that when I open the drawer, it's full of watery softener!!

Does it work as well if you put it in with the detergent?

I can't justify calling a man out just for what seems like something so simple!!

I have cleaned it again today but it still doesn't bloody work ConfusedConfusedConfused

I've just had this problem with my washing machine. The draw was scrubbed within an inch of it's life and the hole it slots into was as sparkly clean, still the chamber just kept filling up. Got on my knees with a torch clamped between my teeth and a cocktail stick. Gently prised some yukky black stuff out of the little nozzles above the fabric fresher section.

Reassembled everything and hey presto it works. Hope this helps x

clean using kitchen spray with bleach, leave to soak in, poke the holes with stiff nylon toothbrush or similar prodder.

The concealed fabsoft grows black mould and mildew, the bleach kills it. Once dead it cleans off easier. You will have to do it repeatedly.

Any excess cleaner just gets washed away down the soap drawer next time you run a wash, I don't bother trying to rinse it away.

Leave the drawer slightly open between washes, like the door, so it can dry out which discourages mould growth.

LeonardWentToTheOffice · 24/10/2014 02:23

I had this with a machine _ think eventually gave it a good scrub and it worked again but for ages I waited till it was doing final rinse paused it then added softener to drum sat one of those dosing balls on top of washing with softener in it. A faff but I gotta have my nice smells :-)

PigletJohn · 24/10/2014 09:14

Rather than opening the door, you could have poured a kettle of water into the drawer to wash the softener down.
