can I fit my own gas hob?

Newish kitchen, I just want to replace the hob.

Will I be able to just lift the old one out without damaging the wood block worktop?

And should it be as simple as connecting a couple of things underneath to put in the new one?

And will I then need to seal it in some way?

TIA Smile

I would say no, unless you are corgi registered.

InfinitySeven · 18/10/2014 23:23

Not unless you are a registered gas engineer.

JillySuper · 18/10/2014 23:25

You need a Gas Safe Registered engineer - it hasn't been Corgi for years.

Definitely not. You'll invalidate your home insurance at best, blow the house and family up (without insurance) at worst.

WestEast · 18/10/2014 23:25

No. Unless you're a gas engineer.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to do that. Anyone remember the Brookside storyline about this years ago? Grin

No, you will need a Gas Safe Registered engineer. Make sure you check they have the qualification for cookers as it's separate training/exams to boilers.

If you go on the Gas Safe Register website you can search for an engineer in your post code. It will also show what they are qualified to work on.

Clairej81 · 18/10/2014 23:27

No, I think you will need someone who is GasSafe registered (previously corgi). All for doing things yourself but in this instance get a qualified GasSafe contractor to fit the hob.

Plus I'm pretty sure most gas appliances come without certain connective parts just so people can't do exactly what you're wanting to do.
