Which Kettle Should I Buy?

damepeanutbutter · 18/10/2014 17:14

Our kettle is packing up and I need to buy a new one. Do you love your kettle so much that you want the whole world to know about it? If so TELL ME! I don't want to spend a fortune nor do I want something too cheap and cheerful. It needs to be 'cordless' and have a water gauge and not take forever to boil the water. If you love yours could you please tell me what it is so that I can start doing some searching? Thank you!

Hello. This thread is a little old now and some of the recommendations may be out of date. Take a look at our round-up of the best kettles - according to Mumsnetters - for more up-to-date suggestions. MNHQ.

Marking place! Our kettle is leaking and being rubbish right now, so I have no recommendations.

damepeanutbutter · 18/10/2014 17:28

We will both have to tap fingers whilst we wait for the brilliance of MNers to tell us what to buy!

Yes me too. Our cheapy Tesco one is very noisy and leaks water everywhere.
Now I'm no physicist, but I'm pretty sure water and electricity aren't supposed to go together Shock

Emslifechoices · 18/10/2014 17:32

How much are you wanting to spend?

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 18/10/2014 17:43

I'm looking at buying a new kettle as well, however, I'm planning on buying one that you can heat up on the cooker (to preserve a bit of counter space!). I usually heat a kettle full of water in the morning and pour it into a big thermos to use throughout the day anyway, so no worries about using the cooker once a day (maybe twice Grin) to heat up the kettle.

Ei recently bought a Kitchenaid kettle to replace an Alessi one that kept scalding me when I refilled it (own fault as I was making tea for several people)

Love the Kitchenaid one, got it in red

BigfootFilesHisToesInYourTea · 18/10/2014 18:58

I bought a cheapy Tesco one and much to my chagrin I admit DH was right and it was a false economy. After learning the hard way that it leaks (pouring boiling water into saucepan little realising it was dripping water into other my pan of hot fat - OW!) I'm happy to spend up to about £50 or so. Alessi/Kitchenaid may be beyond my budget...

bruffin · 18/10/2014 19:14

I love my Bosch Styline. It has different temperature settings and a keep warm button. Its not cheap but boils quickly as well.

Mamab33 · 18/10/2014 19:22

If it is a stove top type you fancy. A lady that owns an independent store said not to buy le creuset as they warp and don't last.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 18/10/2014 19:26

I'm looking at this one.... www.argos.co.uk/m/static/Product/partNumber/1849260.htm

damepeanutbutter · 18/10/2014 19:38

Just checked out both the Kitchenaid and the Bosch Styline online. The Kitchenaid one looks dead cool but is beyond my budget (up to £50). But the Bosch Styline is within that range. Some complaints on Amazon that its beep is very noisy. Does it annoy you bruffin ?

Any other kettle recommendations/passions out there?

We have the KitchenAid. Worth every penny.

bruffin · 18/10/2014 19:45

The beep doesnt annoy me. Its only one short beep.

LadyofDunedin · 18/10/2014 19:49

I love my Dualit Architect; stylish and fast boil. £59.95 online reduced in Selfridges just now . You won't regret it !

Justgotosleepnow · 18/10/2014 21:49

Ah, our top budget is £30 as we are spending nectar points.
Any recommendations?

3catsandcounting · 20/10/2014 21:43

Another vote for the Bosch Styline - it's the best kettle I've ever had (and I'm old!). Yes, it beeps when you switch it on and when it's boiled, but it's really not that loud. Its quick, looks smart, and has a temp control (good for hot Vimto and hot water bottles) and a keep-warm function that we occasionally use at the weekend. I love it - fab quality.

damepeanutbutter · 20/10/2014 22:39

Is this the Bosch Styline? There seems to be one that sits on a base (cheaper) and one that doesn't (£10 more expensive). Which is the one that you like (two of you who posted about it)?

I love my Bosch Styline. So quick and the beep doesn't annoy me at all.

bruffin · 21/10/2014 06:05

Mines the one your link damepeanutbutter.
If you need a toaster that matching toaster is excellent

damepeanutbutter · 21/10/2014 07:11

Thank you both, Snow and Bruffin. Are both versions 'cordless'? You just pick them up when they have boiled the water and the base they sit in stays still, but the kettle is then free ?

Sorry, have now watched the videos for both on Amazon and both are cordless. Now just got to decide which one ......

Thank you!
