Mouse in the house...please help me!

Please help me, a few days ago we found out we are living with a mouse...I went berserk. We moved out for two nights while the pest controller came. I have been hysterical, I feel so filthy. Moved back in now and have scrubbed the kitchen from top to bottom but how many are there and when will I know they are gone? We have found one dead one so far. I keep bursting into tears, it is so horrible and disgusting!

Get a cat?

Presumably the pest controller put down poison and you are now waiting for it to kill the mice?

Could you sprinkle some flour on the floor, round the edges, and look for mouse tracks? Don't do it for long though or you might attract silverfish or something!

We've always tended to hear them scratching at night, so absence of that and snap traps staying empty meant they had gone.

Hi Panicked, try not to erm panic! My DM had a mouse/mice and they got it sorted quickly (I'm assuming the pest controller found where they were coming in a blocked it up?), like you DM was horrified and felt uneasy for a while, she re-jigged her kitchen so that things like flour were in a cupboard high up as opposed to a 'bottom' cupboard (near the floor) and stored things like that and cereals etc in plastic containers (the ones with lids/spouts).

I heard a mouse at night inside the wall and could hear the scratchy, scuttly noise which stopped when I either moved/made a noise or put the light on (again I probably made a load of noise getting up) - so you may want to try that if you're brave enough!

Not sure what makes a mouse choose your house but I know my DM lives next to allotments/with chickens (and had seen some outside near there) so assumed that's what attracts them to the area I the first place. Might be worth identifying anything attracting them from the outside as well?

Having a cat is no guarantee...
I have a cat but ended up with mice in the house when neighbours started to redo their bathroom
Guess they were more scared of builders than cats Smile

My cat brings them in and releases them :( Im waiting for a call from pest control atm. I feel your pain.
