M and S Kettle just broken after 1 year. Not bothered about a beautiful looking kettle but under £25 would be good and lasting 2 + years would be great .I remember when kettles used to last 10 years Shock

Any reccommendations ?

thanks

Buy a proper quality kettle. My Philips is over 10 years old and still going strong. If you spread the cost of buying it over 10 years it works out at about £3 or so a year.

I have got the argos value range kettle, cost me £5 and comes with a 1 year guarantee. For £5 I don't mind if it only lasts the year.

Thanks for the replies. Still not sure which way to go cheap and replace often or pay a bit more and last longer-10 years would be brilliant

Russell Hobbs - Russell Hobbs 18944 1.7L Jug Kettle - Grey

I got this kettle recently so can't say whether it will last a year, but it was cheap (got it for £19 from tesco) yet feels wonderfully sturdy and well made. It's not plasticky at all. I think it's smaller than some other kettles but it does us fine for mostly coffees and teas and heating water for pasta etc!

This one - bloody brilliant, fast boil. Bought for moving house spare, but now use regularly as much better than my breville one.

They're all ugly, even the ones!
ours has given up the ghost too... it was Philips, but lasted 14 years!

Asda do a cheap one and I've had it for years. Fast boil and everything!

DoubtfireDear · 18/10/2014 06:28

I've got a chrome one from Asda, think it was a tenner, it's into it's second year now and is fine.

LightastheBreeze · 18/10/2014 06:59

I've had more expensive ones and cheaper and they only seem to last 1-3 years, I think its the hard water and the descaler that wears them out. My current one is a Breville from Asda which cost about £13, had it about 2 years and its starting to go, some chromes coming off near spout. I picked up a £20 M&S one in the sale for £5 for my next kettle, I would never spend over £15 again.

We spent £90 on a toaster and kettle from John Lewis (Kenwood), lasted 3 years. Have replaced with cheap ones, what's the point!

PizzaPasta · 18/10/2014 07:10

My £5 (each) asda smart price kettle and toaster are still going strong after 3 and a half years. The light, on the switch, of the kettle flickers a bit but apart from that, it's the best kettle I've had. My DP has about 6 cups of tea/coffee a day and I have about 2/3 so it's regularly used.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 18/10/2014 09:20

We got a kettle from Morrisons not so long ago for £9 that feels quite sturdy for a cheap kettle.

Obviously too soon to know how it will last but it doesn't leak all over the place like other cheap ones we have had.

FlatCapAndAWhippet · 18/10/2014 22:35

Another here vouching for Asdas cheapie. £10. We're on year four with ours.
Fast boil. Basic looking.

I've had Dualit and de longhi kettles that cost a fortune and didn't last more than a year or two. I then used a £5 sainsburys basic kettle that had I bought to take to Disney land Paris for at least two years. It was actively broken by DS as opposed to wearing out. I've now got a more poncey sainsburys own kettle that matches my cream Dualit toaster. It cost about £20 and has done 13 months so far. I'll never buy an expensive kettle again.

Another vote for Argos value range kettle (£5). Had ours for over 2 years now & no problems. Goes on a base (so wire not attached to kettle), easy to clean, not metal finish so doesn't get too hot when used.
